Chance for CS?

I'm a senior at a high school in New York. I'm 2/560...roughly 2200 total students.

GPA 99.2311 weighted.

Looking for CS Major at:

RPI (received Rensselaer Medal)
WPI
SUNY Binghamton
SUNY Stony Brook
Clarkson
Stevens Institute
Cornell (4th generation legacy)
Carnegie Mellon

Waterloo? (thoughts?)

Scores
Act - 33 (35sci, 34m, 33read, 29eng) 7 writing

Sat - 1760 (1240 math + reading) 3 years old, not submitting since I have act scores.

Sat II - 690 bio (9th grade without prep) waiting on math II and physics scores

APUSH - 3
AP Comp Sci - 5

APs this year: Calc BC, Physics C, Music Theory, US Gov, Macro Eco

ECs:
-Trombone (since 4th grade) 2 years all state(11,12), 2 years area-all state(11,12), first chair top band at school, premiere jazz group (might submit recordings with applications, might help?), small ensembles

-Drum Major for marching band, Head Drum Major (12th). We're second in the state for our division for my two years as DM.(Aprox. 10-15hrs a week)

-Math Team (president/captain 3 years, 10-12) made it to sectionals

-Member of Music Committee at my church
-Spanish Honor Society (11,12)
-National Honor Society (12)
-General Community Service Hours (50-100+)

Thanks for your time!

anyone? bump

I think you’re in everywhere except CMU and Cornell, and you still have a decent chance at both of those.

Waterloo is a great school I hear.

Cool thing about CompSci is that some of the best CS schools out there aren’t too rigorous in terms of admissions.

Look into GTech and UIUC, both excellent schools that, while selective, are more lenient than (and ranked just as high as) Cornell.

Cornell will be a low reach/high match because you have 4th generation legacy. CMU will be harder because of this.
I agree, you should look at UIUC.

Thanks for the replies!

The only problem with UIUC is it’s in Illinois :frowning: I’d like to stay in the northeast or go to the west coast. Not really looking for somewhere in the middle.

Thoughts on Penn State-U.Park and University at Buffalo (SUNY)?

anyone else?

bump my thread

bump. Any last chancers?

Good chances at most of those. Legacy will be helpful for Cornell. Why is your SAT so much lower than your ACT?

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1246909-chances-cal-poly-ed-engineering-major.html

I took my SAT either spring of freshman year or fall of sophomore year and I never cared enough to take it again (kinda early to expect the highest scores). If I pooped on my ACT, which I didn’t, I would’ve taken the SATs again.

Basically I didn’t care about the SAT enough to try again. I felt the ACT was a better test for me.

2 ap classes up till senior year gave u a class rank of 2/560?! wow

My school really doesn’t do APs until junior year. I had to take honors classes to satisfy the NY requirement for credits until I could take AP classes. Honors classes are weighted, but not nearly as much as APs. I just did really well in the early years of high school I guess.

Anyone else?

anybody else?

Good chance at all, esp. Cornell b/c of the legacy thing. I’m sure you’ll be fine, you have great stats. Good luck:)

Thanks! I think my biggest reaches are probably still Cornell and Carnegie Mellon though…

bump! more thoughts?
