Chance for Dartmouth ED or Brown ED - Will Chance Back!

I am very interested in Dartmouth and Brown, even though they are reaches for me, and was wondering if you guys think it would be a waste to apply ED on one of them. I know that they are very different schools but I honestly like them equally, so it isnt a matter of which one is a better fit. Can you guys tell me which one I would have a better shot at for ED or if I should not even bother applying? Thanks!

I attended Brown University's Pre College Summer Program and took a writing course

Chance me for Brown ED, Dartmouth ED please (:

If possible, also chance me for WUSTL, Wake Forest, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Holy Cross, Duke, UChicago, U of Rochester, Lehigh, Lafayette (dont worry - i have safeties too)

I will definitely chance back asap!!

what is your GPA scale? can’t be out of 4.0 since you have a 4.1 UW.

then i’ll respond.

tbh i can’t speak much about which college is better for u, but i urge u to retake the SAT (get around 2150) as well the SAT Subject test in chem ( get at least 750+). Also i think u shud take AP calc BC, AP chem ( try to get 4+). you should actually even retake the bio subject test since that is the most important, as it is related to ur field.

What is ur UNweighted gpa? Ur tests scores arent good enough yet. The ecs don’t show great commitment, so it will be tough

Imasophomore:
My unweighted gpa is on a “4.0 scale” but 4.0 is an A and 4.3 is an A+

csspro:
Okay I will definitely retake the SAT, but as for chem I had a really horrible teacher and Im not sure if I will be able to get it up that high. I only took it because i may need it for a program im applying to. Do you still think I should try again?

As for APs, the 5 that I am taking between junior and senior year are the only ones that my school offers so i wont be able to take calc BC or chemistry

Also, I forgot to add my community service
Spent summer volunteering at a nursing home: 10
Spent summer volunteering in the MICU at a local hospital: 11
Tutored a high school student in biology: 11, (maybe 12)
Went on a mission trip to central america where I got medical experience in a health clinic and a health fair, built homes, etc.: 11 (hopefully 12)

Technically both schools are equally difficult to get into and admissions into top institutions can be chancy at times. Your chances of getting into either ivy league school should be about the same, although as aforementioned, it’s a little unpredictable at times. You should pick a school you truly like and would enjoy being at for a good four years. Although, as you mentioned, both are reach schools for you.

Good luck applying! :)

Try to get your ACT score to 32+ and I think you have a shot at ED Dartmouth, and possibly Brown.

I strongly suggest studying a lot this summer and retaking both the SATs and ACTs, aiming for a 2150-2200 on the SAT and a 32 on the ACT. Your dance and figure-skating talents and accomplishments are unique, and I would emphasize them in your application if possible.

If I were you, I would apply ED to Brown, since it’s recognized as one of the best undergrad neuroscience schools in the country.

Good luck! Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1172630-insert-attention-grabbing-title-here.html</a></p>

I think u have a chance at those two schools, but if I were u I would get ur testing up. Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-admissions/1172645-chance-duke.html?highlight=chance+for+duke</a></p>

Okay thanks so much! Does anybody know if either of these schools favor people who apply ED / prefer the commitment of an ED applicant?

Brown ED you have a good shot, because your ECs are phenomenal, especially the research and the award.
Get the SAT/ACT scores up in the 2200/33 ish range and you’re a very competitive candidate at both schools

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1168928-chance-me.html</a></p>

Hey! You will definitely get into JHU with those curriculars.
Brown, however, can be kind of a reach for you.
Dartmouth is a low reach!
just get those SAT and ACT up a little and get that essay!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1173771-chance-me-please-will-make-me-happy-ill-chance-you-back-my-best-abilities.html</a></p>

Here’s mine

I think your standardized test scores would be an excellent way to improve your chances at both of these schools. With a score about 2250, chances would be tipped heavily in your favor. I find it difficult to judge based on your GPA but i assume it is pretty good. Right now i’d say you have about a 30% chance of admission at these schools. Keep working at your SATs or ACTs and it will help a lot. It’s probably the best thing you can do at this point.

Your GPA hurts you (unless i’m wrong about the unweighted scale), however, your E.C. with east coast championships could give you significant leeway. Keep winning those awards and boost your SATs a bit. I’m on the same track with you in terms of SATs (second time taking: 2060), and I’m going to take it once more too. 3 times can’t hurt you. Plus I got a 600 in reading and a 760 math/700 writing so it should be a easy boost to 2100+.

Chance me back if you can.

Can anybody chance me for JHU, Lafayette, WUSTL, Holy Cross, Lehigh, UChicago, or Georgetown?

Brown ED=high reach
Dartmouth ED=mid reach
Wake Forest=match
Johns Hopkins=low reach
Cornell= low/mid reach
Duke=low/mid reach
UChicago=high/mid match
U of Rochester= low match
Lehigh=low match/safety
Lafayette=accepted

Def try and raise your test scores and then you have a chance at Dartmouth for ED, Brown too, but Dartmouth is a tad easier I believe. Wake Forest is a match and UR Lehigh and Lafyatte should all be ins

Sure, your SATs are low, but Brown in particular gets that not everyone is great at standardized tests. Sleep over on campus if you get a chance - that really helped me narrow my list. But honestly, I think you will do great. Have you checked out skating facilities at the schools? Talking to coaches - even the ice hockey coaches - might give you help both in deciding and after you have applied if the coaches intervene or write a letter on your behalf.

totallyawesome - thanks so much for that great advice! I will definitely try to contact the skating coach at dartmouth and visit the skating rink when i go to NH this weekend! Do you happen to know if the admissions officers value the opinions of the coaches, even if it isnt a varsity sport at that school?
