Chance for Duke ED

Hey all, wondering if any would be so kind as to chance me for Duke ED

Stats:
White female interested in STEM (particularly neuroscience) and the Classics
SAT: 2150 (CR: 760, M: 680, W: 710) I know it's low, but my school average is around 1373 [BTW, this is my one and only SAT test]
SAT IIs: Chem 800, US History 760, Math II 670, taking Latin this Dec. for placement purposes/in case I don't get into Duke for RD apps
ACT: 32 composite (English 33, Math 34, Science 31, Writing 30)
APs: Chem/US/Lang all 5s, taking Euro, Lit, Stat, Calc AB this year (one of the most rigorous programs possible at my school)
I am also in College Level Physics, though I am not planning on taking the AP test because we don't follow anything remotely resembling the AP course
Weighted GPA: 103.391/100 (I know it's an unusual system)
Rank: 1/642

ECs
Latin Club
New Jersey Junior Classical League, currently President, formerly Corresponding Secretary and Northern Registrar
Mock Trial, 3rd yr
Science League since freshman year
Math League on and off since freshman year
Science Club
Certamen (a Latin/Classical culture and mythology team quiz bowl....I have competed nationally with my team twice)
The New Jersey Scholars Program (NJSP)
Guitar for many years

I was also accepted into the New Jersey Governor's School of the Sciences, but could not attend because of NJSP

I would say Duke ED is a low reach. You academics are solid and ECs are decent. The thing is all of your ECs are academic except for guitar, and none of them are super impressive. I think it will come down to essays and letters of rec for you. If they are great you can definitely get in. Good luck! I hope to see you at Duke next year!

Chance me back? I am applying ED at Duke as well. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1561842-chance-me-duke-ed-will-chance-back-within-24-hours.html#post16449634</a></p>

Thanks. I know my letters of rec will be strong (my Latin teacher included the fact that I was trying to self-teach myself Irish Gaelic [I know this because he wanted to make sure he used the correct name]) as are all my essays. Also, I realized I forgot to include some honors: NHS, National Latin Honor Society, AP Scholar, 3 time Gold Medalist for the National Latin Exam (going for a 4th this year), two time gold medalist for the Classical Etymology nd Classical Civ exams…

Are you considering any of the Freshman Focus Programs?

Hope to see you at Duke next fall too (I’m way at the end of the thread for chancing you)!

I’d say it is a low/mid reach. Your academics are near the bottom end of Duke’s 50%. The ECs are all pretty good, a nice involvement across the board. However, your ecs are all, like picklechicken37 said, academic. This isn’t a bad thing, but it isn’t helping all that much either. It will really come down to how you sell yourself as a person, not just a learner, in the essays. Best of luck! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1567485-chance-me-duke-ed.html</a></p>

Your extreme involvement in latin (seen after I posted my chance) I would say bumps you to a low reach! And I’m more worried about my application response at the moment than the Focus Programs to be honest.

Swimswamswum: I was wondering about the FFP because that’s really what made Duke stand out to me (none of the other schools I’ve looked at had anything remotely similar), and I was wondering if it was the same for anyone else…

Duke is definitely a low reach for you.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569738-chances-i-chance-back.html</a></p>

I think it’s a low reach. You are a well-rounded student especially with your latin accomplishments. Your ACT/SAT scores are on the lower end of the spectrum, but your GPA, being valedictorian, and applying ED will help you a lot.

I’m also applying to Duke ED. Chance me maybe? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1569148-chance-me-duke-ed-will-chance-back.html</a></p>
