Chance for Duke ED

Duke is my dream school, Ive visited twice

ACT: 36 one sitting, first try
GPA: A- range, strong upward trend. Not great in grades 9/10, but Junior year straight A’s

Senior YearCourses- AP Calc BC, Advanced English, AP Spanish Conversation, AP Physics C, International Relations, Chorus, Vocal Ensemble (selective, more advanced choir)

ECs: Chorus and Vocal Ensemble,
Two choirs in local organization
Leadership council in school
Founding member of service org (raised 10k)
Varsity Football and tennis
Service Trips (120 hours service total)
All-state Chorus

Very good private school in Northeast.

Interview- gonna do one with a former trustee, family friend.

Thank you!

Your ACT is really good and your GPA won’t be a big deal but your EC’s are kind of generic. make sure to have a great essays and then im sure u have a great shot!

@sanjanagupta1 Thank you! im gonna try to accentuate the fact that I’m a varsity football starter that sings in 5 choirs, because I just havent met anyone that does that but Im working hard on my essays!!

When you say grades weren’t very good in freshman/sophomore year, what do you mean by that? More than a couple B’s will be flagged at Duke. But the choir/football angle sounds interesting. Good luck

@wisteria100 like probably an 87 UW average for 10th grade (worst year) but a 95 for 11th grade in much harder classes.

I think you have a decent shot. Believe it or not, I know a kid like you (football singer), and he was of great interest to very competitive D3 schools for the potential he brought for connecting those 2 communities (and he did both in college ).

I would agree with @gardenstategal. You have a great chance at Duke, but I would highly consider Grinnell College in Iowa as another application. It is a top-tier school in Iowa, and the school loves football players with other extracurriculars. I have a friend who was a stellar athlete that went there and is now already starting.

thanks!
