Chance for ed cornell human ecology PAM? :)

Hey this is my first post, I'm applying ed cornell human ecology, to policy analysis and management major (PAM) and need opinions to mentally prepare myself for the imminent rejection.

Essays really good according to guidance counselor, think i could form a great connection to mission of college
recs should be good, but im not sure about spectacular, i didn't see them, but my guidance counselor loves me

BUT someone from my school already committed to play a sport at cornell which drastically decreases my chances :(

Thanks for your help!

*sports recruits sometimes go through a whole different process than normal. For example, my harvard interviewer was extremely surprised when I told him there was a guy from my school who was recruited for football and said he needed to tell that to his peers or something. I think theres like a separate quota or something at some schools.

Anyways, I actually liked human ecology the most and talked to the vice dean? of it in an info session (only 2 students and him in the room) when i visited the school. In the end i didn’t actually apply to Human Ecology because i kinda blew off my cornell app (due to me getting tired of my other 12 apps i just did) and just applied to the college of arts and sciences by copying and pasting my upenn/ northwestern essay. Though my grades/ test scores were better than yours by about 5-10%, I still did not get in. Granted part of it was definitely me not treating the app seriously, but contrary to my previous belief, Cornell is definitely and “Ivy” when it comes to terms of college acceptance; even if its one of the lesser respected ones. Then again, Cornell for some reason or other has lower test scores on average for their entering class than than most of the other ivies (brown is the other low one i think) so it may just be they look for a different type of student.

That said, I’d rank Cornell as a reach for you.

Thanks fortune3!

I have a low cumulative average of a 3.0 , however my school is quite rigorous and I am ranked 2nd in my school. I plan on taking several AP’s next year and I have been taking electives in order to prepare for the Policy Analysis and Management . I have taken or will take every elective and ap my school has to offer. In your opinion will the 3.0 be a major setback even though my rank is 2nd? I attend a small private school in the borough of Queens, New York and it is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. My sat score is 2000 and the critical reading and math combine to make 1390. I also have above 700 on three sat subject tests. I have over 250 hours of service credit in a hospital and a community center in order to get a feel for structuring of large and small institutions in regards to this major. I plan on applying early decision what are my chances?
