Ethnicity: White
Gender: Male

I have six hours of college credit with a grade of A+ from the University of Pennsylvania from a Computer Science course I took there last summer.

150+ hours of community service (just like everyone else), a few clubs with officer positions (just like everyone else), played basketball freshman year at a very competitive school (Only private school in District 5A, we were #1 in Texas and #3 overall two years ago). Won't help much, however.

I also have created logos for small businesses and companies, helped code and create video games professionally and non-professionally, etc. I taught myself how to use professional-grade programs when I was nine and created an online portfolio to showcase my work over the last nine years. I showed this to the Associate Director of the Computer Science Department at Penn when I was there, and she seemed to think this would greatly help my admissions chances everywhere (She worked in admissions for 16 years).

Anyway, my GPA is not very high and I haven't taken an abundance of AP classes, although that's mostly due to my high school. We can't take any AP classes freshman year, have a maximum of three AP classes sophomore, junior, and senior year, and aren't even guaranteed a spot in those classes because they're in such high demand. If you make, for example, a B+ in freshman English, as I did, you don't get a spot in any later AP-level English courses because of the demand.

Anyway, looking for some input. If you think I'd have a better chance applying to the Engineering school instead of their liberal arts College, I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on that as well.

I think you have a good chance. Vandy will not hold it against you if your school limits the number of AP classes students are allowed to take. You seem to have a passion for computer programing. You should emphasize this in your application. Your test scores are great and while you didn’t provide much detail on your EC’s from what you said they should not hurt your application. Statistically there is not a lot of difference between the students from schools to school (though A&S has a lower acceptance rate because of the quantity of applications). However your resume and interests do seem to fit engineering well. Bets of luck!
