Chance for ED/RD?

I'm loving CMC the more I read about it, and It's probably my first choice. But I would still prefer to apply RD just to have other options available. Am I better off just applying ED2 to lock it in? Also, my prospective major is PPE/ International Relations.

Other: White, middle-class, would like to go into PPE or International Relations, and live in CA( possible disadvantage, but I would like to be close to home)

Personally, I would go for RD, you have more options that way. If you change your mind or get an outstanding financial aid offer from another school but you’re locked in to attending CMC, you’re screwed.

I’m an XC captain for my school and I’ve been in contact with the CMS coach too!
Just wondering though, what’s your contact with Coach Goldhammer been like (emails, phone calls, etc.)?

I have been in contact with coach Goldhammer since last spring. We have communicated through emails and phone calls, as well as a campus visit (unofficial) over the summer. What are your times like?

16:44, but I was sick near the end of the season. Decent, but not exceptional. I am better at track though (4:37 & 10:03 while being sick four times during the season). I think I’m being recruited more because of my academics (34 ACT, 790/780 SAT IIs, 3.99 UW GPA, strong ECs) than athletics.
What about you?

I’m fairly consistently sub-16:45. PR of 16:25, but I generally run in the low 40s or upper 30s. As for track, I have only done it for a year but I ran a 4:43 mile and a 10:35 2 miler (I had no competition the one time I did this race which explains my time) I have a 3.9 unweighted and a fairly low SAT score (2060). My extracurriculars are really solid though so those should give me a boost. Did you apply ED1?

I swear half of this site is just an outlet for kids to brag. A 2060 is not a fairly low SAT score…obviously it’s not amazing for an elite LAC like CMC, but it’s still pretty good and you shouldn’t call it a weak score. Also, realize that nobody on this site has any better idea of your chances than you do.

dcxc, I’m applying RD before the Dec. 1 scholarship deadline.

I would say you definitely have a good chance! Congrats! <3

My DD and I took a tour in September. I think it was a Pomona student (XC runner) who says the coach’s recommendation means nothing, because it is DIII, not DI. The coaches apparently express frustration that students are admitted on academics alone (or at least not sports). I’m guessing CMC is similar to Pomona in this regard, but I’m not sure.

thats not true in cmc’s case. I know a few people who have gotten in that would have been very borderline without a coach advocating for them.

The coaches definitely help with the admissions process. View it almost as a really great EC. It’s a hook; yes, you have to have good grades/test scores/ everything else, but it does help to be recruited. The key is to be in their range already.
