Chance for: ED Smith?

Not sure how many people are familiar with some of these colleges, but I'm applying ED to Smith College, and if I don't get in, then ND to: Oberlin, Sarah Lawrence, Bard, and Whitman.

Any help with my chances on getting into any of them would be much appreciated!

3.7 (out of 4) GPA, unweighted, no class rankings
5 AP Classes taken and 2 classes taken at UConn
Published in Teen Ink twice, was cover article once
Published in Polyphony H.S. (pretty selective HS lit mag, they get something like 2000 submissions and publish around 40)
Band for 4 years, Wind Ensemble for 1
President of Lit Mag and Book Club for 2 years, participating for 4
Staff Writer school newspaper
First reader for Polyphony H.S. for 2 years
Published in school lit mag freshman, sophomore, and junior year
2000 SAT score, taking ACT the 23rd and should get a better score... hopefully

I'm mostly worried about my GPA. And I want to find a way to showcase my writing; would it be annoying to include a two page short story and a fourteen line poem as a sort of mini portfolio in the "any additional information" thing?

I just really want to get into Smith. D :

I’m pretty sure you should send the poem and everything as supplementary materials, rather than putting them in the additional info section. Check the Smith website or email the admissions officer to see if they consider or appreciate those sorts of things.

also, were the UConn classes ECE at your high school, or on-campus?

Oh yeah, I’ll just send admissions an email asking about their preference. Thanks for suggesting that!
One of the classes was at the high school, the other one was on campus.

Bump? 10 characters…

Based on the students I know who got into Smith, I think you’ll be fine!

Sweet, thanks kolijma. (:

I agree, you look strong for Smith.

Are you going to be majoring in journalism? I think you have a very strong chance, since you have great EX about being published ec. Theres a article on “What extracurriculars count” and they say that if you show passion and initiative towards a particular career field your interested in, if your grades are poor, your still a great candidate.

I think you have a great chance at those schools

Sigh of relief. Thanks.
And no, not journalism, something much less profitable! If I get into Smith I plan to double major in Russian Literature and Education, with a concentration in poetry.

Yeah, you’re stats for Smith are pretty in line with a friend of mine who is in the freshman class this year. She was also into writing, though I think she’s looking into being an English major.

Good luck! Chance me back if possible? Thank you!
