Chance for Emory ED1 Class of 2021?

So just as a preface I am taking the ACT in both October and December to try and raise up my admission chances, because I realize my SAT isn’t great. However I won’t get either score back in time for ED1, so yeah. If I’m rejected from ED1 I’m going to reapply ED2 with my newer test scores that are hopefully superior.

So what are my chances?

GPA:
UW: 3.9 or so
Weighted: 4.3 or so

Rank: Top 5%, not sure exactly what my rank is though.

My gpa is a lot lower because I got 2 b’s freshman year, but the admissions officer when I visted Emory said they don’t count freshman year grades, is this true? If so my GPA is a bit higher.

SAT: 2060 (I know that’s really low, I was scoring so much better on my practice exams I think the nerves just got to me, I’m hoping to get a 33+ on my ACT)

AP Classes (with corresponding test score)

Freshman year:
AP Human (4)

Sophomore year:
AP Enviornmental Science (4)
AP World History (4)

Junior year:
AP Physics (Didn’t take)
AP Psych (4)
AP US History (5)
AP Bio (3)
AP Lang (5)

Senior year:
AP Calculus AB
AP Comparative Gov (taking this online)
AP Lit
AP Gov
AP Calc BC
AP Econ
AP Stat
AP Physics 2

Total AP’s by graduation: 16 (I believe the only AP’s my school offers that I didn’t take were AP Chem, AP Art, and AP Spanish)

Extracurriculars:

Varsity Soccer all 4 years, Hoped to play for emorys team, but when I reached out to emorys coach he never replied:’(

Beta Club (Sophomore Year)

NHS (Junior - Senior)

Founder and President of schools Science Olympiad team (had to go to teacher and set it up and everything)

Model UN (Member Sophomore year, Treasurer Junior year, hopefully president this year)

Anchor Club (Member Junior year, director of activities senior year)

Member of Law and Leadership Academy (Invite only club for top social studies students in the school, we have to do a senior research paper and present it to the school board or something)

Math Team member (Junior - Senior)

Internship with a software development company (My father is friends with the guy who owns the company, this is new and I haven’t quite got the job yet but it’s looking like I will)

Volleyball manager (Senior year, 80+ hours of community service, the girls aren’t bad either)

Teacher Recs: I’m asking for this this week, I believe one will be very good and one will be decent
Counselor Rec: Should be average
Essays: Good I hope? I’m not done with them yet but I’m on my way there. Writing about my experience transitioning from homeschooling my entire life to jumping straight into highschool for common app and something about religion for the Emory one.

Anyways yeah, I know my test scores are bad but aside from that I feel like I’m pretty competitive? Is it even worth applying ED1 with my test scores? Or should I just wait ED2 where I will (hopefully) have a higher test score?

I’m certain Emory is where I want to go to, I toured it and I fell in love with the campus. Plus it’s close enough to my family that I can visit, but far enough that I will have my own life. Also the business program is amazing and that’s what I want to do.

Thanks!

A) Keep an open mind about pursuing business through a business school.
B) You look “okay” for ED1. If the ACT ends up good, send it instead.
C) GPA is excellent, in the upper range of UW GPAs. A couple (literally 2 at the beginning of your career) of B’s may be a good thing. Shows you aren’t a robot, had room for development and did indeed develop academically.

I would not highlight the software development job (especially with that sort of connection). Maybe the senior paper would be something to talk about as that shows academic engagement. Emory can often tell the difference between someone that just gets involved in everything because they have the connections and resources to versus someone deeply involved or interested in something out of personal interest. Think about which of these activities excite you most and how you will pitch the interests to Emory in the application. You don’t just want to have a list that brags.

Even with a higher test score, ED2 is a bigger risk.

yeah i agree for the most part, but i think you are better off applying ED2 with higher ACT

@KuntaKinteUC : But Emory isn’t as ACT/SAT sensitive as most schools especially in early rounds. ED2 looked rather random to me like they are trying to ensure the person is an actual fit and not just falling back on Emory as a sure top school option after being denied elsewhere. Chances are about as low as RD for ED2. I used to think they would just want to use ED rounds to lock down any super high stats applicants, but it seemed to not really play out. If they can hit 32-33 on the ACT before the end of November: http://apply.emory.edu/apply/exam.php I would go with ED1.
