Chance for engineering schools + Safeties needed

<p>OK, other than chancing, you could tell me some other safeties?</p>

<p>Note - I am on a H4 dependent visa. Green card is expected in 2 years. That automatically disqualifies me for FAFSA and all other need based scholarships :(</p>

Race - Asian (Indian)
School - 4,500 students, sub-200 rank from US News website</p>

<p>SAT - 2240 (retaking in October hoping for 2300+)
ACT - 35
SAT2 - Math2 800, Physics 800
PSAT - 218
GPA - 3.96 UW, 4.5 W (Note - GPA would have been higher but I attended a small rural school in MN for freshman year 1st semester which had no accelerated/honors classes)
AP - English Lang - 5, Calc BC - 5, APUSH - 5, Physics B - 5, APCS A - 5, taking 5 more senior year
Class rank - Top 5%, school doesn't do exact
National Merit Semifinalist, maybe finalist (expected)</p>

Co-president of Math team in senior year
Member of Model United Nations since junior year
Member of Knowledge Bowl (Scholastic Bowl) Varsity team
Member of NHS
Volunteered at local library for 2 summers
Volunteered at Kumon for about 1 year
Volunteer at local museum since last year
Total hours = about 200, 250-300 by the time I graduate
Gold Honor roll since freshman year</p>

essays - good</p>

<p>Applying to -
MIT, Caltech, Columbia, UIUC, Cornell, Michigan, Purdue, UC Berkeley, Georgia Tech.</p>

<p>PLEASE RECOMMEND SOME SAFETIES.</p>

<p>Purdue and Michigan are safeties…you dont need anymore than one or two.</p>

<p>^^^I agree Purdue/UMich are safeties. If you need financial safeties, maybe consider other IL state schools, or the University of Alabama. With your stats, you could go there for practically nothing, especially if you end up being a NMF.
