Chance for Georgetown and Boston College

I would love to go to Georgetown or Boston College, please tell me what I must do based on the following statistics to get in for biology/pre-med:

I would also apply to George Washington, UCONN(in state), Boston Univ., NYU, U. Virginia, Lehigh, and Villanova

Currently a Sophomore at a public school

Have a GPA Weighted of 3.83 for Freshman Year
4.1 GPA Weighted for Sophomore Year

Sophomore Year PSAT's
M: 650
W: 570
R: 600

Will take them one more time(Also take practice tests from SAT Study Guide), then will take the SAT's. Approximating a 1300-1350 on SAT’s

Most likely admitted to National Honors Society

Extra Curricular Activities:

Medina at Yale University: Program that teaches students about the Middle East and their culture. Recieves extra .5 credit

Project Clear: Cleaning up local lake. Recieves approximately 30 hours of community service per year. Doing it for sophomore year and will do in junior year.

Have taken 7 Honors Classes so far, will probably take 2-3 AP’s and 3-4 Honors in Junior Year, and 5-6 AP’s senior year.

Class rank is most likely in top 15%, and in most advanced spanish I could possibly be in, Honors Spanish 4, which will let me take AP Span. 6 in senior year.

GWU, UConn, Lehigh, and Villanova should all be matches
Your GPA is good especially considering upward trend; however, it doesn’t seem like you’re planning on taking many APs junior year…take all the APs you want senior year, but you NEED those AP exam scores to buff up your app. This is of course considering your high school offers a great amount of APs…if not, you should take the most rigorous schedule offered and possibly self-study an AP or two (something easy, like psychology or Human Geography)
Your SAT scores need to improve for Georgetown and Boston College by about 150…once you break 2000, you’ll be in great shape.
You may also need an EC that you show passion in. Do an internship at a research lab if you’re interested in Biology or an internship at a practice if you want to go into medicine. Nowadays, scores and SATs will only get you so far; ECs and essays/recommendations are the decision makers between choosing you over the next kid.

If you follow those guidelines above, I think you’ll have a great shot at GU and BC
Good luck!

I just recently began thinking about pre-med, the idea actually came to mind on friday when I was getting elbow surgery. Do you think that would be a somewhat original essay topic, on how getting surgery and learning how a hospital operates influenced me to want to be a doctor?

Also, how would you go about asking at a practice for an internship?

Also, for the AP’s, there are basically 8 blocks in our school day, and all AP Sciences take up 2 blocks, preventing me from taking more AP’s, because I also have to tak Gym/Health as one block.

Would you recommend dropping something as spanish in order to take another AP? I also have the opportunity to take AP Language + Composition, but English is my least favorite class, and I would fear that I would regret taking that course. What do you recommend?

Another addition to the EC’s is unformal tutoring, once a week(meaning not formally set up by the school, just a friend in need of Algebra help)

Thanks

GWU
UConn, Lehigh,… are both matches
Boston Univ…match
NYU…high match.
U. Virginia…high match/(low low reach IF you dont raise your SAT)
Villanove high match.
write great essays and make sure to highlight your ECS why they are different and make you stand out (they are interesting  and should definitely strengthen your application)

With a good rec and essay i would call georgetown and BC high matches to low reaches

definitely take wither the act or wing the SAT again.

please chance me for NU and NYu unfortunately BU transfer appl. date hve already passed…

Georgetown = Reject (Unless you’re black or Hispanic)
Boston College = Same

Kid in my school has a 96 average, 1950 SAT, membership in swim team for 3 years. Applied ED to GT and BC and got rejected from both.

any more please?

please i need chances

What you need is a higher SAT score.

I actually haven’t taken the SAT yet, only PSAT once, but I do take multiple tests from the study guide, got 660 in math yesterday.

Also, I am self studying AP Env. Science and AP Psych. during Junior Year.

Does anybody know if colleges view self-studies as the same weight as opposed to taking an actual AP class at school?

you seem to be on the right track (im no professional) but if you get your sats up you will have a good shot at a top school.

if you self-study an AP and pass the test, you will receive credit (if accepted by the college) just like you would receive if you were taking the actual course. only difference is that the subject (the course) will not show up on your transcript

A 660 is still not close to high enough. You need to get much higher scores than that, but since you’re only a sophomore the scores will naturally improve as you learn more so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I think you should be warned, though, AP’s are extremely difficult, there is a LOT of material to cover and the tests are extremely detail oriented. You can try self studying but I’d be it will be far more challenging than you are currently anticipating.
Honor Role is not an EC. It seems like right now you are only in 2 activities, one that doesn’t meet too often, and that will not be enough for top schools I don’t think.
