Chance for Harvard SCEA? Will chance back!

@TheKongo, Thanks. I think I might need to take the SAT again to get a 2300+, because I’m 99% sure I didn’t get it this time around, lol. Also, for WUSTL, I have demonstrated interest at college fairs, so would that just be a regular reach then? Thanks for the chances!

If you demonstrated interest probably a High Match

Just improve your SAT to at least 2200 and you’re in for sure

@scderek24, Thanks! I’m just praying for the absolute best right now…

Any more opinions as to how I can better my chances?

Your extracurriculars and GPA look solid. The varsity sports also look great and since you are a minority you have a high reach for harvard!

Your chances are great.

That is a VERY nice application. Especially the internship. I think you have a decent chance. It is Harvard of course, but if I was in your place I’d definitely apply.
Chance me?

Thank you everyone! All I can really do now is make my application awesome and hope for the best!

Also, @Complik, I chanced you back.

I remain a bit more skeptical than most people on this thread. Of course, OP, your credentials are stellar, but with an increasingly competitive applicant pool, one can just never know.

1) Make sure to take your SAT II subject tests!!! These are an admission requirement for many of the schools you are interested in, so make sure to take care of these (preferably sooner rather than later).

2) Read this thread and click on the links in it. It links to a New York Times interview with the Dean of Admissions at Harvard, and it is VERY informative. It truly is a must read.

@Adodie, Thank you for your honest input! While I am flattered by what people have been telling me, I am still EXTREMELY skeptical and do not expect much when applying, especially with the increasingly competitive applicant pool. Onto your two points: I am taking the Bio M and Math 2 SAT II subject tests on June 1, and will probably take Chemistry and Spanish in October. Also, I will be sure to read the link you have posted. Thanks for the help!

So I finished the article. It’s very informative. A bit discouraging but very informative.

EDIT: Recently chosen to be co-head delegate for MUN next year! :)

EDIT: I got a 2080 on my May SATs. It’s abysmal for where I’m looking to apply, I know. I’m retaking them in October and studying for the entire summer to hopefully get a 2200+.

I really think you can get into any college. Those are supurb stats. Good luck and make to maintain your GPA and dont let it slip.

Chance me!!

a 3.75 GPA unW and a 3.9 W

taken several AP and honors courses throught HS (6 total)

Clubs in:
NHS(on board)
PAL (on board)
math club
bowling club
science olympiad
Red Cross(president)

on track to get gold cord for community service hrs. (total so far is like 300 and end of senior yr, most likely 450 hrs)

SAT score total: 1600

My top colleges:
UC Berkeley
USC
CSU: East Bay
California State Polytechnic University: Pomona
San Jose State University
Stanford (maybe, i dont think so, but i will try)

Also, mention any other universities that i match as well that are in CA
Thanks :)

@poppyoman, Thank you!

As for your chances, I don’t know much about the schools you mentioned, but I can try.

Also, about your SAT scores, are they out of 1600 or 2400? I’m assuming 1600 when I give my opinion about your chances.

I think your stats are pretty good. Your GPA is a tad low, esp. for Stanford, so just write awesome essays and get good recs. Good luck!

The only downside to your app is the 2080, though in all honestly it is COMPLETELY correctable. Your GPA is great, EC’s are superb, and you are an URM. Harvard’s a reach for anyone, so I won’t pump up your expectations and call you a match. I’ll call you a reach, but cryptically tell you that most qualified applicants have much larger reaches to overcome than you do.

Good luck!

@movieman706, Thank you! I do plan on correcting the 2080 to the best of my ability (which means incessant summer studying!) and I hope that after that is hopefully corrected that I stand a better chance.

The SAT score is out of 2400

@poppyoman,

Woops, sorry about that!

I did look more into the other schools, and here is what I think.

UC-Berkeley - reach
USC - reach
CSU: East Bay
California State Polytechnic University: Pomona - match
San Jose State University - safety
Stanford University - high reach

I would say that the main thing dragging you down is your SAT score because your stats look pretty good otherwise. If you aren’t already thinking of retaking them in October, I would do so because I think it could significantly increase your chances with a lot of these schools. Sorry about my mistake earlier!

And good luck in your applications!
