In order to be a match for Harvard, you not only have to be strong academically but be some-what of a prodigy.. meaning win a few nationally recognized awards in more than one area.

Your academic record is not that strong.. you only took 2 AP tests.. and you only got a 3 on one of them.

However, your SAT I score is very goood.

Being Asian is a disadvantage when it comes to the ivies.

Here's my female Chinese friend's stat who got into Harvard's Engineering 2 years ago:
1550 / 1600 SAT I, Math 2 800, English Literature 770, Chinese 800, Physics 780.

GPA: unweighted 4.0, weighted 4.4 or 4.5 (8 AP's total)

I know she was ..
1) National merit Scholar
2) President of NHS

I'm not too sure about the specific details of her record.. but I do think you have a chance. Are you a female? I heard females have some-what of an advantage when applying for Harvard's Engineering school

Show Harvard that you are UNIQUE in one way or another. Bring out a FOCUS point in your EC's. I think you have to really knock them dead with a fantastic application.

Well there's more to Asia than China, Korea and Japan you know :P.
She could be Armenian for all we know.

Your ECs don't look like they'll scream ACCEPT ME but they're decent. You have good test scores but you've gotta have some great achievements in you ECs. You have a chance at Harvard but not a fantastic one. Have you considered looking at other schools?

Sleazybum09, Harvard is really hard to chance. High SAT scores are only part of the equation. A couple of years ago in my school, two kids applied to Harvard. One had a 1380/1600, the other had a 1530/1600. The 1380 kid was accepted and the 1530 kid was waitlisted, then rejected. This was because the 1380 was #1 in the class and involved in just about every school activity. The 1530 was #8 in the class and didn't have the stellar EC's that the 1380 kid had. Your scores are incredibly high, but you don't have an EC that would make you unique. You should definitely apply though because your scores are well within Harvard's range.

Well, don't think that you have no chance. You are a very good applicant and many schools would catfight to have you in their roster. For Harvard though, read the EA admission results thread in the Harvard forum. It could give anyone a cold dosage of reality.
