Chance for History major transfer from CC to UCB?

My current GPA is a 3.77

My Major GPA is 4.0

I am completing IGETC

After Fall'13 and Spring'14, I expect my GPA to be 3.8-3.9 due to the ease of my classes.

Extracurricular/work: Supplemental Instructor/ Teacher's aide in History courses.

By Fall 2013, I will have nearly all prereq transfer requirements completed. BUT, I will have to take ENG 102 in Spring 2014 (I already completed eng101)

It sounds like you are in good standing, but make sure to get working on a good personal statement because that does come into admission consideration for Berkeley.

I’d say that you have a good shot at Berkeley too. But as jacefromLA said, Berkeley takes the personal statement very seriously and way more than even UCLA does. Make sure to write a good one!

Berkeley is also the only UC that really cares about extracurriculars as well. It’s a good thing you have some decent ones to list on your application.

Yes this Fall 2013 I plan on trying to be more involved to pack onto my EC’s. I’m already starting to piece together what I want for my Personal Statement, so it should be solid.

Can anyone tell me how selective/competitive their History Major is? I haven’t found too many history transfers to UCB on this forum.

You have a pretty high chance. Make sure to write a solid personal statement. I think you will get in! Goodluck.

PS is definitely important. Besides my GPA my EC sucks but I got in probably due to my personal statement really speaks about who I am.

Hey mr401k: I received my BA from Cal in history back in 2009. The history major isn’t impacted. You’ll be applying to the College of Letters and Sciences. The personal statement is a fairly important component in your application.

Is there a particular area that you are interested in studying? Is UCLA on your radar as well? They actually have a larger department (more professors). I got into Cal and UCLA (among others). I chose Cal because it has the Center for British Studies as well as a full field of professors in British history and Celtic studies.

I’m not saying that Cal isn’t the best choice (it was for me). I’m just saying that, if you haven’t already done so, you should look at the departments at various UCs, see who the professors are who teach there, and make sure wherever you choose is well regarded in the area of history that you want to study.

Good luck.

PM me if you want any more info about the department. I’m taking a few weeks off from research and I’ll pop in periodically.

Hey all, just wanted to give an update. Finished my summer semester with a B in my Anatomy class to fulfill my science w/lab requirement, and waiting to see what I got in my language (ASL) Class, I think I got a B in that class as well.

I plan on applying to both UCLA and Cal, and I haven’t decided yet where to apply a TAG for.
