Chance for Honors Program?

Hey all! I am a Caucasian male high school senior from Maryland looking to receive admittance into the Honors Program. Any comment as to my chances would be greatly appreciated!

Academics:

GPA
4.41 W
3.90 UW

Class Rank
10/~400-500 (sorry for the ambiguity, I know that I am #10, and I believe my class is somewhere between 400 and 500 students)

SAT I
2050 (750 W, 670 CR, 630 M)
I know, I know, retaking in October. Those scores were from my first sitting my junior year with only some preparation. After self-study, AP Calculus, and AP Lang + Comp, I have a feeling I can improve to the 1350-1420 range.

Course Rigor (15 AP classes total, rest are honors)
Sophomore
AP World History (5)
AP HuG (4)

Junior
AP Comp Gov (5)
AP US History (5)
AP European History (5)
AP Lang (4)
AP Calculus (3) (Devoted my study time to the other classes. I love learning and mathematics intrigues me, but I didn't have the time to study for Calculus due to personal affairs.)

Senior
AP Government
AP Economics Macro
AP Economics Micro
AP Environmental Science
AP Literature
AP Psychology
AP Computer Science
AP Statistics

EC's: (This isn't all of my EC's, just the ones I can list off the top of my head; moreover, these are in the colloquial, it's not how I'd describe my activities to a college.)

Member then Vice-President of the National Honor Society (JSr)
-Elected position, loads of community service, leadership experience, 5 hours a week year-round tutoring

Member of the National Spanish Honor Society (JSr)
-Member with some community service

Varsity Swim Team (FSp)
-Made counties, regionals, states freshman and sophomore years

Model UN (JSr)
-Best Delegate Award at county competition
-Attended JHUMUNC as a delegate

Student 2 Student (JSr)
-Member of the Executive Committee (J), promoted to chairman of the financial committee (Sr)
-Balance budget/handle money/lead meetings

Model Organization of American States (JSr)
-Will be a heading a delegation senior year, served as a delegate junior year

Model Arab League (Sr)
-Founding a model Arab League team with the school's international studies teacher (I never took the class so as not to bring down my weighted GPA, but I typically get along well with the social studies teachers at my school)

It's Academic (SpJSr)
-Attend multiple competitions per year
-Selected as one of three representatives from the team to compete on the TV show

Mock Trial (JSr)
-Head lawyer for the defense
-Helped my school achieve the first wins in its mock trial team history

Theatre (JSr)
-We all have to have some hobbies, mine include working as part of the tech crew to aid in the production

Invited by the county to participate in multiple socratic seminars (JSr)

Additional Information:

I have a passion for learning and a desire to work alongside individuals sharing this passion. I enjoy philosophy, particularly existentialism and absurdism, but plan to major in Political Science or Economics with a goal of attending law school after college.

I should probably add here that I managed multiple channels on YouTube with subscriber counts totaling roughly 60,000 people, all involved in the gaming industry. In my position as manager and leader, my roles included: communicating with advertisers, seeking legal advisement and consultation on contracts, acting as a primary liaison to likeminded organizations, etc. I received compensation for one position of three. This took up a substantial amount of my time freshman and sophomore years, hence why my EC's are primarily later in my high school career.

Essays:

Solid

Rec's:

Solid

Everything looks good except the SAT score. 1400+ would be what I would shoot for if I were you. At 1300 you are below the average student at UMD and even 1350 lands you solidly in the middle 50%, which this past year was 1260-1410.

Work on that test score and I would say you stack up nicely!

Thank you for the advice! 1400 is definitely what I’m aiming for!

(I forgot to mention in the original post, my SAT II’s were 750 US History 740 World History)

Very good chance. Make sure you visit and “demonstrate interest.” My daughter did a few official visits and reported her interest in Honors. They were a few official events, such as Maryland Marquee Day, Maryland Day, and other open houses. There are seminars on Scholars and Honors. You can then list your interest in Honors. My daughter was marginal for Honors 1320/2120 SAT with 4.5 GPA and I believe her multiple visits really helped her.

I think you have a very good chance of making honors. My daughter was accepted to honors and her stats are pretty comparable I think. Her ACT was the equivalent of about a 2160 on SAT. She ended up with a 4.6 (I think) GPA. Unweighted was a 4.0. She graduated #1 out of 400+. She took 12 AP courses. Also had a variety of EC’s and was an athlete. She is IS.
Good luck to you!

She was given a presidential scholarship too. I think you would be in the running for that as well.
