Asian here, applying as an international. I'm still looking into schools. I just want to gauge my chance if ever i decide on on Duke.

Will be needing A LOT of financial aid. (probably the biggest factor ~$35k hopefully). 2000 SATI, 590/570 SATII (Math2, Phys) :( , good ec's with leadership positions, good recommendations, average gpa, top 25%. rigorous academics, toughest in the nation.

hook: URM? 2 sport athlete (basketball! and soccer)? girl interested in math/science?

I'd say your chances are very slim, to be perfectly honest. Duke only accepts a small number of international students applying for financial aid, and your stats are not all that impressive for a Duke applicant. Asian is most definitely NOT an URM. But you don't know unless you try, so just convey in the essays something extraordinary and that you really want to attend Duke. Your test scores and class rank are below the typical range, and being int'l applying for fin aid doesn't help....But what do I know? I'd say just apply - you never know what can happen.

how about an international (india) with better SAT scores ( 670 CR, 680 Math, 700 Writing) 2050. Somewhat average GPA ( but im definately top 10% of my class) great ECs and amazing rcomendation and essays. my essays really portray something unique about me (atleast thats what my counsellor thinks)
I will NOT be applying for any financial aid. will probably major in econ or pol sci

Unless you have a really impressive hook, you probably wouldn't even get in as a US citizen, much less as an international. You are a solid 100 points below Duke's lower tier SAT, and 150 below for each of your SAT IIs. And asians looking into math/science are a dime a dozen, many of whom will have immaculate stats. If you are looking at other highly selective schools, I would strongly recommend that you retake those tests to give yourself a shot.

Or if the ACT is available to you give that a shot.

I got a 2090 on my SAT I, an 800/780 on SAT II, and a 31 ACT as a U.S. Citizen. The numbers aren't STELLAR, but they're not going to keep me out of Duke either. You on the other hand need to either get your SATs up or take the ACT and get a 30+

are the sat II's a determining factor for admission? does this mean i'm an auto-reject at, let's say, the top 20 universities (according to USNews)? cause i retook them already and got the exact same score (weird). what if everything else is pretty good? i don't have time to retake anymore.

what universities do you think i have a shot at, with the amount of fin. aid i need? i'll even take merit scholarships
