Chance for Irvine after being waitlisted from UCSB?

So I just got waitlisted from UCSB. What are my chances for getting into Irvine now? Is Irvine ranked higher than Santa Barbara?

Irvine is slightly ranked higher, but at this point everywhere is competitive. As of right now, UCI has been releasing rejection letters. So go check it out!

@Helpmepleasee: That all depends on who you ask!

^ Lol at that list. It even ranks USC below UC Santa Cruz.

Also, even if one school doesn’t accept you, a higher one might; it can be pretty random. I mean, I didn’t get into UC San Diego, but I got into Berkeley.

US News also has Santa Barbara ranked a little higher than Irvine, but those few spots have little, if any, meaning.

To answer the OPs question, IMO Irvine is more selective than Santa Barbara. I hope you get in though. Good luck!

They said it themselves, they ranked on excellence, not just reputation. If you looked at the breakdown, UCSC’s score in Citations/Research Influence was what got them ranked so high on the list.
“A university’s research influence — as measured by the number of times its published work is cited by academics — is the largest of the broad rankings categories, worth just under a third of the overall score. This weighting reflects the relatively high level of confidence the global academic community has in the indicator as a proxy for research quality.”

USC… University of Spoiled Children. It’s overrated, but is nice for networking.

I would hope they’re at least paying for good professors at USC. I don’t know personally what the professors are like though.

But I know based off of UCI, a handful of professors that are at the school for research, don’t care about their classes at all and are terrible teachers. Or maybe it’s just the Economics department. Lol, sorry if anyone is offended.

I feel like UC’s are very random. A lot of kids at my school who I thought were going to be easily accepted into UCSB were rejected and A LOT of kids who were accepted into UCLA at my school had under a 2000 SAT.
