chance for Ivies

<p>Hey Guys, My top choices are Princeton, Harvard, Yale, Northwestern, and UVA</p>

<p>Scores:
-ACT:33 (Not great put still 99th percentile according to ACT)
-SAT II (Retaking on Saturday): Math II 680 Chem 680 Lit 660</p>

<p>Academics:GPA 3.86 UW/4.34 W
-Only one B which was sophomore year
-Took 10 APs starting with two sophomore year which is practically unheard of at my school
-third in my class
-Four years of Spanish culminating in an AP
-Most of the sciences (chem and physics in the same year) and calculus ab
-Got a four on the AP environmental Science test without taking the course (Definitely not a big deal)</p>

<p>EC's:
Soccer for four years (out two seasons due to two knee surgeries, stayed active as team manager), Refereed (Paid) youth soccer since i was 11 (Currently certified by national board), Coached (volunteer) youth soccer this past fall, Worked as a Lifeguard at local pool last two summers (Red Cross certified), VP of the Science club (treasurer last year), National Honor Society and Key Club member, volunteered with group at homeless shelter since long before high school</p>

<p>Possible Hooks:
-I go to a Public High school in New Mexico with a majority Hispanic population and a 30-40% drop out rate. Not competitive at all. Sends maybe one student to Ivy league once every three years
-Clever essays
-Actually held a job
-Knee surgeries? (Strange circumstances possibly)
-commitment to soccer
-Interest in Hydrogen Fuel cells</p>

Sorry, but I see nothing special about your app. You’re competitive, more competitive than most students, but you’ll just blend right in with all the other Ivy applicants. Your academic stats are strong, but not as strong as those of many other Harvard-bound students. In fact, your GPA is somewhat below average, and that could really work against you since you go to a very non-competitive school… Your ECs seem focused a lot on sports, but I’m not sure how much of a difference sports will make at Harvard admissions if you’re not a recruited athlete. You don’t seem to have much commitment to learning and pursuit of knowledge in your ECs - and that’s a must-have for an Ivy league applicant. And I don’t think any of the hooks you listed could really help you, but you could definitely write some great essays about them. Bottom line is, you have a shot, but your chances seem fairly low to me. But that’s just my opinion.</p>
