Your “chances” would probably increase if you apply as ED as is the case for most places with ED. By how much, I am not sure. 518 of my class were admitted ED though, and that is approximately 5/12 of the final freshman class of 2015 so if you think JHU is for you, then by all means do it (I did RD). Financial aid for this school compared to the other ones I got into was fairly weak (as in nonexistent if you don’t consider unsubsidized loans to be legitimate, but then again, I barely got any from other schools either). Still, it’s not about the money, money, money right? And I have definitely met people who have gotten better aid packages at JHU than from other schools. As for chances of admission, well, no one can give you a legitimate picture of your “chances for success” except for those on the admissions committee (and that’s not going to happen on College Confidential). Just put yourself out there, explore all the schools you are interested in, and you’ll find yourself happy no matter where you end up.

You will have a better chance with ED as they know exactly which students they are getting when they admit them ED, but the standards are still the same for ED as for RD. I did RD so I cannot speak for ED. As for financial aid, that is a personal topic and no one here can talk about that as circumstances are different for every applicant. Also, I would look into retaking the ACT to try to get into the 33/34 range if possible and taking SAT II’s (3 recommended). Good luck.
