You should be competitive for all the schools, but I take issue with how you labelled a lot of schools as 2nd tier- I think that all of the schools you listed are superb, and all of them have their own strengths and weaknesses.

Perhaps I should clarify… obviously, none of the schools I listed were “bad” schools; I’d be be very fortunate to be able to go to an elite, prestigious school like those. Unfortunately, on CC, the only schools we seem to address are the top 50 schools in the nation as defined by USNWR, so anything below an Ivy+ or Top 20 is considered “2nd tier” in the context of this website. In no way is the description “2nd tier” meant to be derogatory- it just happens to be the expectations of the students that use this site. I think of JHU as just as good as an Ivy League education, as with a lot of the schools listed.

With that said, does anyone else want to take a shot at my chances? I need a candid review to keep myself grounded.

For JHU I would say high match for ED. If deferred, you should be a match for RD.

Penn - low reach
Chicago - reach
NW - high match
WUSTL - high match
Cornell - high match
Tufts - match
Emory - match
GTown - high match

Here’s mine http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1525734-chance-me-umiami-any-merit-aid-will-chance-back.html

Penn = low reach. Definitely apply ED to show your interest in the school since it’s your top choice.

JHU = match. probably would get accepted with your test scores and extracurriculars :)

Thanks for chancing me as well :)

As other people said, if Penn is your true dream, go for it and apply ED. Even if your test scores and GPA are a little low (though by NO means bad), you can show your enthusiasm by applying ED. Also, make sure your essays are really good and start them now if you have not already, because there will be no time to do so during the school year. Best of luck to you!

Chance me back please? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1501759-chance-harvard-scea-will-chance-back.html

If you really like UPenn, go ED. It has by far the best ED acceptance rate of any Ivy (something like 39%). JHU ED should be pretty doable as well, more or less a high-match, and you never know until you try.

your Act is >75% at Johns Hopkins for incoming freshman so you stand out there. Your grades are good considering the rigor of the courses you are taking.
The only thing I did not see is any volunteering? I don’t know if you just forgot it, but you should definitely volunteer! Extra curriculars are a little weak/basic in my opinion, see if you can find something that makes u stand out a little more.
All that being said I thing JH is a solid match for you!
good luck!

With regards to UPenn, my brother got in with a 34! he absolutely LOVES it there! No offence but his extra curriculars stood out more than yours. Also, my school has a ‘good relationship’ with UPenn (i.e. all kids we send there do well/stand out, and more significantly, out college advisor was on their admissions committee for 20 years;) ).
Nonetheless, I think you have a match/low reach for UPenn ED. If it is your dream, go for it! I think JHU is still safe enough for you if you apply regular decision.

I think you have a solid chance. But it’s still not guaranteed. Ur ec’s are great and I’m jealous of ur ACT. You are qualified to apply basically anywhere

You have a shot at JH. But if penn is your first choice, apply there ED - it’s a low reach for you. Maybe even (dare I say this of an ivy?) a high match ED. But definitely do ED at your first choice.

I wouldn’t say high match just because og the GPA… still a good shot though. Good luck man!

I really think you’re definitely going to get in, especially with a GPA like that! All your test scores are great! As for UCLA and UC Berkeley, I honestly feel like you have a great chance as getting in as well! I know they focus a lot on essays so be sure to get a head start on that and you should be good to go! Good luck with your college apps :)

all great EXCEPT gpa/class rank may not be able to compete with valedictorians/other top of classes? but that def isn’t the most important aspect, I think u have a shot at not necessarily jhu but top schools in general.

Your GPA kinda in the low 25 percent for ivies but still considering all the APs you took and your SAT scores I would say go for JHU ED…
HYPSM- Reaches(For everyone)
JHU-Match
Cornell and Upenn-Low reach

you have a damn solid chance of making JHU. class rank?

Unsure of how your GPA works, but based on what you’ve said, you look pretty solid. Class rank would be helpful in evaluating your school relative to you. Top 10% in a normal high school isn’t always impressive.

JHU ED is definitely a possibility, but I wouldn’t say it’s a safety. I would expect you to get into UCLA and UC Berkeley (out of state), and probably also Emory. You’ll probably get into some of the others, but I don’t know which ones.

Activities seem pretty centralized, so you might seem a little lopsided. This is okay though, because it seems you’ve received state/national recognition.

If Penn is your dream school, I don’t understand why you are applying to JHU ED. If you get in to JHU, you’ll always regret not knowing if you could’ve gone to Penn.

I think you have a solid set of statistics. I agree with masculistman that you should go ED to UPENN if you want(would’nt recommend wharton though) because they accept many applicants and you are a good one. Also, I think you are good for most of your 2nd tier schools. However, I would be weary of Cornell and Georgetown as they are reaches to most. While your gpa is a little low for college confidential standards, I think that is fine; I have a similar gpa and have had almost straight A-s. As a piece of advice, focus on some more community service. Overall, you are a solid applicant and I would recommend UPENN ED.
