-I am NOT applying for financial aid
-Will not apply for ED because I want to show my 1st semester senior grades
Btw, I do have safeties in mind: UMass Amherst, U of Wisconsin, etc.
I am also considering University of Michigan and University of Virginia.
Come to think of it, I think I might apply for ED for Claremont Mckenna or Pomona. Which school among CMC and Pomona would I have the most chance of getting in if I apply for ED?
@chajen16 I think CMC’s ED acceptance rate was 31%, while Pomona’s was 20%. I think the Middle 50 for SAT for Pomona is a slightly higher range than that of CMC, so Pomona’s applicants may have slightly better applications based on statistics, but your SAT is fine anyways so that probably won’t matter. So, if you apply ED to CMC, you’d have a better shot than ED to Pomona, and obviously you can still take classes and such at Pomona since they’re both part of the Consortium.
But, only apply ED if you know you will love the school. If you see yourself at Pomona, then ED to Pomona. If you see yourself at CMC, then ED to CMC. If you don’t have a clear favorite between these two schools, then don’t apply ED to either.
CMC and Pomona are about the same selectivity, and the students are quite comparable in terms of academics across all the 5C’s (we all regularly take each other’s courses and there’s no one school whose students tend to stand out overall).
Both CMC and Pomona are small, tight-knit communities, so they really look for students who are going to fit in with the rest of the college. If you have the time & ability to visit, do an overnight at each of the campuses. Whichever one you think you fit in with the community better, the one where you see yourself in the students there, that will be the one you have a better chance at getting in.
@Scrippsie @PartyNextDoor Thanks for your kind advices, but do you think I actually do have a chance at the schools mentioned above?
@chajen16. Looks like a decent chance for Pomona and Clairmont but you would have a better shot at the New England LACs because the population of Asian students is very low.
