Chance for LSA/Honors Program

I'm a pretty strong student, ranked #2 in my class (were it not for a technicality I would be #1), and Michigan is one of my top choices. I'm an NY resident. Here are some of my stats:

Scores
2240 SAT
800 US History SAT
710 Literature SAT
730 Chemistry SAT (If you add up these scores, you get 2240 as well, oddly)
5 AP US History
4 AP Eng Lang
5 AP Chem
102.16 GPA

EC's
Black belt (soon) in Karate, 6 years of training, also a 2-year Karate instructor
VP National Honors Society
Member of Spanish/French Honors Societies
First Chair Alto Saxophone in Band/Jazz Ensemble
Student Council member 4 years
Tutoring (paid)
Newspaper writer

My father is a Michigan alumnus, by the way.

The biggest problem I have right now is I'm a little stuck on my application essays (I don't have time to work on them during the week), and I'm afraid that because Michigan is rolling, I'm missing my chance to get in/hopefully get into the Honors Program. Is it too late to have a chance for the Honors program?

Your stats are top-notch and your resume is good enough. I’d say you are a nice match for acceptance, but not necessarily a shoo-in for honors. Since you are a strong applicant, I would take a long hard look at the financial sensibility of attending this OOS public versus a private or in-state school that will offer you merit aid.

Good luck!

Should be as close to 100% in to LSA as possible. Honors is likely for you, but not a sure thing.

Don’t worry too much about applying to Honors. D was accepted into UM in January but did not apply to honors until mid-Feb and was accepted. We asked someone at honors if that was a problem, and they told us as long as the Honors Ap. is in by early to mid-March, your application will be judged only on its merits. If you wait until after mid-March to apply, honors might be full and your application may not be judged on its merits.
