any input on my chances would be appreciated
By the numbers, you are in assuming these include senior year so far. If however you still have not applied and gotten all your scores in, or you are screwing up senior year, your chances may decrease slightly.
My gpa will likely increase at the semester mark, and I just applied yesterday for the January 15 deadline. My school will send my transcript and record soon…based on that do you think my chances are good?
Yes, I do. Where are you from? New England? West Coast? Mid Atlantic? South? You might have more competition if you are from NE or CA, but I don’t think it makes that much difference. It’s about numbers, and you seem to be above the minimums.
Yes, I am from the boston area. Is it true that if the grades and sat scores are above the minimums, then
admission is almost guaranteed?
I’m not sure about that, and even if it is true, it would be contingent on the number of spots available for that faculty. Since it’s done on kind of a rolling basis, it really depends. I would think that like for US colleges, if you are at the 50% range you are pretty much in. Anyway, if you haven’t visited, I urge you to do so.
If all tests scores and UW GPA are well above the minima then admission is virtually guaranteed. If any one falls below, admission is very unlikely. If you are slightly above the minima, then it is uncertain.
I have applied to the faculty of arts, and the faculty of management. Is it true that the decisions between the two faculties are considered separate of one another? and also that admission is based on space availability (in which case what about those who apply close to the deadline)?
When do they usually get inform applicants of their decisions?
Thanks again
Yes, your applications to different faculties/programs will be evaluated separately. You will get separate decisions from each faculty.
McGill releases admissions on a rolling basis. That means the decisions are not released on a single day (like most US schools) but over a period of time from late-Jan to May. However this does not mean if you apply close to the application deadline, your chances go down. The admission process only begins after the deadlines closes and every application will be given equal weight regardless of when it was submitted (so long as it was before the deadline).
Thanks for the help…My mid term grades come out in a week or so and I will send them over at that point. Can they decide on an admission decision for me without my 2nd term grades, or will my 1st term grades be enough? If they are able to, how long does it take US students to hear back?
@ironman234 What we were told is that if you meet all the requirements for admission to your faculty of choice, you can be admitted without the 2nd term grades. You seem to meet all the requirements with what you posted.
