Hello - I live in Los Angeles and I fell in love with Montr

???

come on…

please respond guys!! help!

Well, you have taken a very difficult schedule. Your 9th and 10th grades are bad, and that will hurt your chances a lot. Especially since 11th grade wasn’t THAT much better. However, your ECs look good and you seem very determined. Write a good essay and get good recommendations, and you’ll have a shot. Good luck.

was 11th really not that much better? i thought my one B in stat wasn’t that horrible… and is 9th and 10th gonna kill me THAT bad? on their site for the arts majors they just want good english grades

please guys… i really need some motivation

The average SAT for freshmen enroled at McGill was 2060. The average GPA was 3.7. If that helps.

Please help me out!!!

What was your SAT score? How have you been doing on practice tests? While it’s commendable to see a large increase in GPA, the fact that you repeated a class due to cheating will likely influence McGill’s decision.

it’s gonna be that big of a deal? it’s pretty masked, and also i have proof from the counselor that i was cheated off of - and my counselor will surely help me out. what do you think?

sat up to date 2010 - i’m gonna retake it.

Bump!!!

please help…

McGill places emphasis on English marks and marks in the area of the faculty you plan to enter. They also only look at grade 10-12 for American applicants, so based on that you seem to be in a pretty good position. In regards to AP Euro, send your 3 in, they’ll probably treat it as around an 80%. Your SAT II scores are far above the minimum requirements (570-650 for languages), so I wouldn’t worry about them. The minimum SAT scores they give for Arts are in the 1800-1950 range, and the minimum ACT composite score is 26-29, so you’re above minimum in both those cases.

People here don’t seem to be very knowledgeable about Canadian schools, so I’ll clear some things up. Unless you’re applying to specific, very selective programs, most schools will not look at anything other than marks. EC’s, letters of recommendation and essays are all unnecessary, and in most cases will be neither asked for nor accepted.

Overall I’d say you’re definitely competitive; assuming you maintain around an 90% average in your grade 12 year, I might even say you’re a lock. Bump up your SAT or ACT a little bit and you’re definitely in.

Good luck, and enjoy Montreal; it’s the best city for students in North America imo.

^^ " EC’s, letters of recommendation and essays are all unnecessary, and in most cases will be neither asked for nor accepted."

McGill requires these for major sholarship applicants but not for admission.

Thanks so much, that was really inspiring. Also, would that whole cheating situation affect me a lot? or would they not even really notice it since i covered it up with the honors british literature?

Thanks!

(the situation - one of my “friends” cheated off me TWICE in the same class, both of us got reported and I got drop/failed) - it’s as horrible as it sounds but thankfully I covered it up somehow. How bad is it?

and also, I was reading around that McGill only looks at “grade 11” or “grade 12”; as you canadians say. For us Americans, they look at 10th grade as well? And also, my very first SAT was really bad. Does that matter, as long as this one and my to-be october one are really good?

For students coming out of US high schools, grades 10,11 and 12 are reviewed.

I believe they will take the highest SAT score per attempt, they do not “superscore”.

what about the ridiculous cheating nuance?

my counselor can defend me, as it was seriously 0% my fault - she (the girl) looked from the side during tests - - both times.

crap. i’m just really passionate for mcgill. i love languages and i love quebec and i love montreal and i just hope i get in. :'(

***another question - will the counselor’s recommendation be viewed, or do they not care about ANY subjective paperwork?
