Intended Major: Sociology

hey! i think you have a pretty good chance. some of my friends with the same stats as you got in!! Everything seems really great! I'm sure with theosehigh SATII's you'll get a high score on the SAT. The only thing I'm unsure about is the GPA, and how that works. But top 5% is definately a plus!! GOOD LUCK i'm sure you'll be fine. =)

Oh I'm so sorry, Quinnipiac is not SAT optional.
Ok, I'm so sick the day I took the SAT I , I'm still surprise that I finish it. I got 1160 though.
Okay, I understand you confusion about my GPA. In my country, hardly anyone got 8.9/10. I got 8.5 and I'm in top 5%. The courses in my school is toughest.
Hehe thanks lovetorun, your answer really ease my anxiety these days. Hope to get to talk to you more, matie :)

Even with an 1160 you should be fine. I think the average SAT score is an 1100. (I'm currently a sophomore there). It all depends what school you applied to because some programs are more competitive than others.

Hi Jewls, It's nice to know you :)
My 1st intended major is sociology, and my 2nd I think is Public Relation.
Can you tell me more about their schools? I have not learned much from its website. (especially those related to my interest, please )
Thank you so much.

Well, there are four schools. The Business school (that's where I am) which consists of Accouting, Economics, Marketing, Management, etc. There is the school of Communications which has Public Relations, Media, Journalism, etc. The school of Liberal Arts which is Psychology, English, Math, Sociology and the school of Health Scienes which is PT, OT, PA, and Nursing. The hardest school to get into is Health Sciences because the PT, OT and PA programs are very competitive to get into. Then in order it probably goes Business, Communications and then Liberal Arts (but don't quote me on that). You should have no problem getting in.

I had an SAT score of 1280 and not only got in with scholarship, but was also accepted to the Honors Program which is currently in it's second year at Quinnipiac.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi Jewls,
To be honest, I'm seeking full financial aid and stuff. My family can not contribute more than 3k per year. So I'm taking the SAT again, this time I believe my score will be more than 2000. I composed a nice Why Quinnipiac essay. Could this increase my chance of receiving financial aid as well as honors program and scholarships?
Thank you in advance for your help, Jewls

Okay, you need to understand that Financial Aid and Scholarships are two completely different things. Your grades, SAT scores, etc have no impact on how much financial aid you receive, but will contribute to the amount of academic scholarship. I know QU offers a max of $15,000 a year in Academic Scholarship. A friend of mine had 1400+/1600 SAT and had a 4.0 GPA and only received $14,000. I receive $10,000 a year.

Financial aid is strictly based just on your FAFSA form, which includes your parents income. Hope that helps and clears things up.

That certainly did, Jewls.
I'm taking the SAT again, and I'm quite confident that I can get 1400+ / 2050+.
My essays are quite touchy. Would Quin give me all I need in both scholarship and fin aid, since my parents cannot contribute more than 3k/ year?
Thanks again.

They might, but they might also be able to give you a full ride in Financial Aid. Where else are you looking to go?

I must say that we were not impressed with either financial or merit aid from this school. My son was accepted. He was awarded merit aid from 5 private schools, and Quinnipiac was NOT one of them (some are more competitive than Quinnipiac too). The reason is that they used a chart for gpa and SAT scores. My son met the criteria for SAT score by a lot, but not gpa criteria. Frankly, my son comes from a very competitive hs. Quinnipiac did not take this into account. I was told that they use a chart for gpa/SATs, and all high schools are counted equally. If you are a good test taker from a less competitive hs, you may do better in the merit aid department. Also, their financial aid package for my son was far from the best offered. He would have gone to Quinnipiac, had it been affordable. Here are their aid stats as listed on the college board:

Full-time freshman enrollment: 1,358
Number who applied for need-based aid: 1,057
Number who were judged to have need: 799
Number who were offered aid: 796
Number who had full need met: 98
Average percent of need met: 65%
Average financial aid package: $14,369
Average need-based loan: $2,856
Average need-based scholarship or grant award: $10,537
Average non-need based aid: $7,888
Average indebtedness at graduation: $25,794

They offered my son financial aid, as they offer to most who apply (799/1,057 were offered financial aid). They only meet 65% of financial need though, and that is where the problem was for our family, I guess. You also need to look at what % of need is met in loans/work study vs. grants when evaluating financial aid packages between schools.

What are the stats for those receiving merit scholarships?

This is from Collegeboard..
Non-need-based aid
determined by:
Academics
Athletics

Scholarship opportunities:
Scholarships range from $4,000 - $15,000 per year; based on high school class rank and SAT or ACT scores; renewable provided students maintain full-time status and a miminum 3.0 GPA.

From QU website http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x121.xml
-Trustee Scholarship- $14,000-$15,000 very top of their high school class, 1400+ out of the 1600 SAT
-Dean Scholarship- $10,000-12,000 top 10% of high school class, SAT score of at least 1200
- Academic Award- $4,000-$8,0000 rank top 15%, SAT score of at least 1150

There is also a Quinnipiac multiple siblings award, an International Student Scholarship, a Transfer Student one and also an Athletic one.

Just to give you an idea, I'm a Sophomore at QU right now and I received a $10,000 one. I had a 1280/1600 on my SAT, and was #10 in my graduating class. According to a Professor I'm considered to be in the top 2% of the sophomore class.

My rank is 5%, my SAT's gonna be about 136x -138x; guess I'm applying to Dean Scho

My D is applying there for Advertising and Film/Video. I think she would get a decent amount of merit money, but her school doesn't rank. If they release her decile to Quinn, I have no idea what it would be. They won't disclose it to kids or parents, just to the schools who need it for scholarship consideration. Is there a GPA range for those awards? Or is it just rank? (My D is in the same boat as Northeastmom's son...too many high achievers at the top ranks for her to get a high ranking)

In looking at the Quinn website, the total tuition, fees, room and board looks VERY low compared to other private colleges in the region. Maybe I'm adding wrong, I got $34,000.00 What does it really add up to?

oh, sorry, I was adding wrong, it's about $41,000.
