Your SAT/ACT scores put you in the bottom 25% of enrolled freshmen.

Most of the schools look for math and reading combined for merit aid scholarships and other schools have need based aid. Try to lift your SAT score math and reading.

Are you looking for full tuition scholarships or just a couple thousand bucks? If it is full tuition, you will want to look at this excellent resource: http://automaticfulltuition.yolasite.com/. If only a smaller amount is needed, you may have better luck looking for scholarships not attached to a specific school. For large merit from a school, you need to be well above the stats of the average admitted student. For instance, my daughter with a similar GPA but somewhat higher test scores is looking at competitive scholarships at University of Utah and FIU because for those schools she is a “get.”

right now, your SAT is higher than your ACT. Your M+CR = 1340, which is equivalent to an ACT 30.

Right now, at UA, you’d get a 2/3 tuition award.
If you raise your CR so that your M+CR = 1400, you could get free tuition.

What is your major and career goal?

Take out Irvine unless you are from California. Very limited merit aid.

You are within range to apply for the Tier One Scholarship at University of Houston.

@ScienceGirlMom Yes, I’m applying to that one, but I just found out today from an UH Honors admissions person that a campus interview is required. I’m from Hawaii State, and my parents are already taking out all their frequent flyer miles for my elder brother of two years, which is graduating undergrad from U Alabama a year early and attending 3 more medical school interviews so far. Is there anything I could do, other than pay every cent from my part time job to be considered?

UPDATE: Raised CR to 680
Writing to 710, Math went down to 680, so only 1360 Highest sitting -.-
Hoping for better with the October SAT, but we’ll see.

Per their website, University of Houston Honors College will accept an interview over the phone. It seems crazy that they would require an in-person interview.
