Chance for mid to high tier programs!!!

Hey everyone, I thought I'd make one last chances thread. I know that the schools on my list seem like a reach, but I've already been accepted to my safety school which I would be moderatly happy attending. Thanks!

GPA: 3.4/4.0 UW 4.0/5.0 W (w/9th grade)
3.8/4.0 UW 4.6/5.0 W (w/o 9th grade)

Tests: 32 ACT single sitting, 770 and 800 on Chemistry and US History respectively.

12 AP classes taken

ECs: On county education board, president of two career-oriented clubs, yearbook editor, baseball for 3 years, number of internships, accelerated HS program for liberal arts, summer camp counselor, and couple more.

Awards: AP Scholar W/ Distinction, several journalism awards with very long names, outstanding contribution to history department

Essays should be good, have a hook about a disability.

Recs will be stellar.

Really, my question is if the 3.4 GPA will hold me back, given the other stats. I screwed up freshman year, but have gotten pretty much all A's since then. I'll be majoring in economics in college.

UVA
NYU
UChicago
Princeton
Harvard
Northwestern
Stanford
UMichigan
Thanks.

Bump…

Are you instate at UVA or UMich? If you are, I’d say you have a very good chance for either one of them. OOS it might be more difficult, but you still have a decent shot. I believe you have a good shot at NYU as well. Depending on what you disability hook is and how significantly it could play into an admissions decision, I’d say you’re at least in the running for admittance to the other schools on your list, although I wouldn’t say you have a particularly great shot. I’m sure with your stats, you have a good chance of getting into at least one of these schools, but if not at least you’ve already gotten into a backup that you’re happy with.

No, you’re just not there grade or score wise for ivies. Mich and NYU are possible if you can afford them.

bump…

I’m in the exact same position as you (same GPA, same problem). The responses I have been getting are along the lines of, as long as your essays/recommendations are stellar and your ECs have heart - you could always end up being that exception.

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Stanford and Princeton don’t look at freshman year; however, they do look at rank (it plays a big role) and your high/poor school rank will be a result of freshman year.

On that note, if your disability is a learning difference or any mental illness, be careful about sharing that information with them. I’m not advising you not do it, because I still am looking for information on it - but like many have told me - put some thought into it.

Are you a junior?
