Chance for MIT and other schools (Will Chance Back)

What is your intended major? This should be your top priority for choosing a school. Obviously you will get into a good school. Also, do not concentrate only on Ivies or their equals. Just like everyone else, have Reach, Match and Safety schools.

You never know what school will really capture your attention. My kid had a higher GPA and slightly lower SAT scores than you. Great EC and a multilingual/multicultural background. Effectively his applications were equal to yours. He was totally captured by a state school with an amazing reputation for engineering and decided to go there. He could have gone anywhere and turned down many of the most prestigious schools in our state for his school.

So, apply to colleges with your intended major and “fit” as your first priorities. A kid like you will only apply to and get into good schools, so I am not worried about reputation at all.

Your interests are all over the place. Do you want science, engineering, premed or business? If it is premed, go to a cheaper state school and save your money for med school. If it is business make sure to add Wharton and other good B-schools. If it is science and or engineering, MIT and Cal Tech are good, but forget Harvard and other similar schools.

I’ve sen too many kids like you fail to get into the schools that you mention and were stranded at a CC until they could transfer. All the schools you list are reaches for everyone even you.

Apply to all the schools that make sense to you. But also apply to other matches and safeties.
