MIT may be a bit of a reach, but I think you could get into Dartmouth and Wash U. Good EC’s–especially with the 4 years of hospital volunteering! You seem really well-rounded.

Five pages and you’re still bumping!!! Very well then… I don’t have anything better to do. It seems that a lot of people seem to underestimate how competitive early admit med programs are. Anyways, besides your absurdly high GPA, you are fairly average for the average applicant for top schools.

MIT - High reach
Dartmouth - Low reach
Duke - Low reach
Johns Hopkins BME - Mid reach, the school itself is about low reach/high match, level
Harvard - High reach
BU 7 year Med Program - High reach
RPI 7 year Med Program - Low reach, though I’m not familiar with RPI
Wash U 8 year Med Program - very unlikely
Northwestern HPME (7 year med program) - high reach
Case Western 8 year PPSP Medicine - high reach

It’s great that you volunteer at a hospital. Even if you don’t do much there, it shows that you at least want to do something related to medicine. That said, all of the med schools you’re applying to are research oriented, so they usually like seeing people with research experience. Conducting research over the summer would increase your chances by a fair amount

Haha yeah WhaleWhale I figured Wash U was very unlikely. Oh well I’ll still apply. ![]()
Anyone else?

I unfortunately know almost nothing about the med programs, but MIT’s probably a reach. Your course rigor isn’t stellar, and you need to get your SAT subject tests up. Like CompulsiveGamer said, an 800 on Math II is normal, and you’ll need a high science score. I’d say in at Duke, you have tons of leadership which I know they love. Johns Hopkins is a mid reach, it’s hard to get in to, and while your grades and ECs are extraordinary, again, it’s about the test scores. Harvard’s a reach, but Harvard’s crazy anyways. Don’t know much about Dartmouth… Sorry. Probably no help on actual guesses, so I tried to point out things to improve on. Good luck! You’ll get in somewhere fantastic.

Thanks for the chance Gleana. Bump

no clue what JHU BMe is, otherwise I’d say good for JHU. MIT is probably a crapshot as are the ivies. Duke I’d give you a good shot. RPI and BU and all of those are probably very high chance (though I’ve been told RPI occasionally waitlists people that they see as overqualified because they think it’s their safety school).
I’d say definitely get those high scores you projected on APs and such. also the physician thing will help a lot because it demonstrates interest. it would help more if you declared that as your intended major too.
chance me back?

Thank you for the chance zorn. I’ll chance you. Bump

I think youve got a great shot at MIT. they dont get that many well rounded people like you. If you really show yourself to be unique in that you arent just good at school in your essays, youve got a pretty great shot

please chance me i would greatly appreciate it http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1315222-chance-harvard-stanford-please-ill-chance-you-back-i-promise.html

Not to dampen the mood, but the WashU program and NU programs are high reaches for you…I’ve been told that NU doesnt accept applications for HPME unless above a 35 ACT score. WashU is even tougher than HPME. However, BU should be a match for you and so is RPI. case could be a low reach. I would reccomend applying brown and possibly the baylor and rice bs/md programs.

Thanks for the constructive criticism CollegeHelp111! I agree WashU and HPME are probably a shot in the dark. Oh well! ![]()
BUMP

Get your SATs/ACTs up higher. I’d say high reach at MIT/Harvard/ schools of similar caliber, low reach for Duke/Dartmouth etc.

BUMP. I’ll chance y’all back! I promise!

I dont know about the medical program acceptance rates, so I can’t give feedback on that, but Johns Hopkins seems very safe, only 100 people in the BME program, so that’d be slightly tougher. Duke and Dartmouth sound like low-medium reaches and MIT maybe a low reach I dont know much about it (You’re very well-rounded, which is not exactly stereotypical of an MIT student, which could be good for your chances) Harvard is always just luck even with your stats so you might as well apply and hope for the best

Dartmouth, Hopkins, and Duke are low reaches. MIT and Harvard are high reaches for anyone. The problem with your BS/MD programs is that you need a lot more physician shadowing to prove that you understand what being a physician entails- something hospital volunteering does not entail. You also will most likely want a LOR from a physician to send to these schools. The other thing is that a lot of. The medical schools you listed are fairly academic and focus heavily on research. You will be competing against kids who have done multiple summers of medical research at NIH or through college SURF programs. While I think you are a qualified applicant to get into top schools, I would make sure to include some safety schools as well. As a student who will be starting med school next fall, I wish that I had looked into a few schools where I could have gotten significant merit aid and saved some additional money to be put towards med school.

That ACT score definitely needs to be north of 33 to have a shot at Harvard, MIT, and the more prestigious schools. I live in NY, and that’s what I’m told.

UPDATE: ACT score was upgraded to a 34 (E34/M36/R34/S30). How are my chances now?

I’m from Kansas so I don’t know the true competition of Ivies or MIT but what I do know from a friend or two that went to Johns Hopkins and another at MIT, the key to getting in any of these colleges is not good test scores or GPA, those are mearly mathmatical check in the boxes. What gets you admitted to these caliber colleges is an exclusive feature that no one else has. The stereotypical answer is find a cure to cancer, but that could be tough. Find something that makes you unique and optimize on that in your free time, EC’s, and essays. When they read 20,000 essays in three weeks you want them to remember yours above the majority. You have great academics and a perfect GPA. That part is done. Finish your senior year off strong and discover what makes you- you. Then go :)

Chance me back please and good luck to you this upcoming year!! ![]()
