What are my chances of getting the Park Scholarship and being accepted into the Honors,Program?

I was just looking at the website for that. I honestly can’t chance you but your stats are great and you are in-state. From the annual report it looks like they pick strong community service types though, so you’d have to think about how to present that strongly.

Nflpackers96, Good work! You have a great chance at Honors Program and perhaps a SemiFinalist for Park. After the semifinalist stage, your “non-resume” strengths (i.e., interview skills, personal statement/story, etc.) will become more important, and that just simply is not something anyone can “chance” you on. The Park Scholarship had 1,700 applicants last year. Of those…286 semifinalists, 105 finalists, and only 41 Park winners. Those are very slim “chances”, but if you don’t apply you’re guaranteed not to win. Go for it!

What county are you in? Park Scholars tend to be kids from all over the state. If you geographically map recipients, although some counties have more Park Scholars (areas around the Triangle and Charlotte), they also look for diversity around the State. They select about 2/3 of each class from NC. As a parent of a Park Scholar, I can tell you there is not one specific profile. You don’t have to have the impeccable resume. You have to stand out as an interesting kid that shows leadership potential and a “thinking” mind. A good many of the semi-finalists also attended Governors School as you have to “think” there. Earlier comment about making it through to a semi-finalist is dead on, if you can get there, it’s then all about whether you are a good fit, a team player. Talk with your school Counsler, make sure they know of your interest. Try and get the school nomination, if not self-nominate. Good luck!
