I’m not going to tell you anything Earth shattering here: your GPA is low, your Math SAT is outstanding. If you bring up your CR by about 30-50 points (which shouldn’t be too difficult the second time around), your entire SAT score will be excellent.

You could use some help in the EC department. Do you have any leadership positions in any of the organizations, or can you get to a leadership position? Have you won any awards or are there awards you could go for (e.g. in Mock Trial, the Math team, or maybe in a Science Olympiad type event?)

All you can do with the GPA is try to bring it up. Getting to a 3.6 GPA would make a world of difference. But even if you can’t get there, you’re still competitive with a few points on the CR SAT.

If I get an A+ this qtr in Spanish and an A- in the midterm, I’d get 4 points for Spanish and be a 3.5 overall. Shouldn’t be extremely difficult (A, A, B+; F midterm). But definitely the class I’m focusing on the most.

Bring up your UW GPA to at least a 3.7. And get a 650 CR score and you’re in.

This cumulative UW GPA is not really changable. Are you saying that I should get a 3.7+ for Senior Year 1st semester (2 quarters and midterm)?

You have to send your transcript by end of your first semester in senior year. if you got acceptance with your current record and did not fail any courses at second semester, you are pretty much guarantee going to the college you got accepted.

Agreed, bring up your GPA and you should be fine. Don’t forget to apply Early Notification round!

No, this is what I’m talking about: I have no time left to bring up my cumulative GPA. My Freshman GPA of 3.44 is set in stone. My Sophomore GPA of 3.45 is set in stone. My Junior GPA is close to set in stone (70% of it is set in stone, I still have 20% left for the 4th quarter and 10% left for finals).

How can I possibly bring up my GPA with 1 quarter to go?

Are you guys talking about my Senior 1st semester GPA? AKA the one that hasn’t started yet? B/c I think I can get a 3.7.

Just imagine:
AP US Gov’t (work my ass off, get a 4.5)
AP Calc (4.5 - should be relatively easy)
AP Physics B (3.5 - really tough teacher, but a 4.5 is attainable, but let’s just say 3.5 for now).
AP Bio (3.5 - I’ve never taken a bio class in my life, so I’ll be reluctant to get a 3.5 here)
H English (3 - I suck at English, I don’t get worse than a B, but an A is not likely).

4.5 + 4.5 + 3.5 + 3.5 + 3 = 19
19 / 5 = 3.8 Tech Calculated GPA for Senior Year [1st Semester]. Is this the GPA you guys want me to get [the one I can still control]? Because a 3.8 for 1st semester certainly would bring my CUMULATIVE GPA not much past 3.50 considering I ended 3 full years with around a 3.40/3.45.

Well I am assuming ur school’s highest gpa you can get is 4.5 with A from AP course and 4.0 for A in regular course. You have 800 on SAT I math and that alone can be good factor that you can succeed in Georgia Tech as engineer major. Try to take as many AP courses since Gatech will favor student who have taken lots of AP course regardless of what you get on ur AP test. Study your butt off on critical reading over the summer think its 650 or end of your life. Take all possible AP course to show you try to take all college level courses to prepare for college.

I don’t think you understand gtgblows - I cannot change my Freshman/Sophomore GPA’s as they are IN THE PAST. Those are factors in my CUMULATIVE GPA.

Are you guys suggesting that I TRY FOR A 3.7 NEXT YEAR

OR

RAISE MY CUMULATIVE (FROSH/SOPH/JR) TO A 3.7?

Because the 2nd cannot possibly happen, anyway you spin it.

we all know you can’t change your past GPA you got in the past unless you hack into your high school’s student grade database and change to your liking…

What you need to work on is get your GPA higher than it is now since you are lower than average georga tech student who got admit to the program. If you have low GPA, you need to make up with high score in SAT and large number of AP course taken in high school.

1) study hard for SAT CR section over the summer and raise it to increase your CHANCE of getting into Gatech.

2) take all AP courses you can to show you challenged yourself in high school which can make up for low GPA. More AP classes will increase your chance for admission.

Hmmm, your GPA is low but you’re SAT scores are good. Do you have any leadership positions in your Ec’s? How about Community service? Based on your grades and SAT scores, I would say that you have a good shot at Tech, but I think your EC’s will make or break you. If they are bad, you won’t get in. If they are good or even adequate, you’re in.

Can I bump this to get some more opinions? I visited GT a couple weeks ago, and it fortified the notion that this is definitely the school I’d love to attend.

96 average in Spanish right now, by the way. If I can get that up by 1 point and study my *** off for the final and get to that 3.5 Tech-Weighted GPA, I would put myself in much better position.

I got in (for summer session) with a 3.45, my SAT scores were a 750 in reading, 630 in math, and a 580 in writing. I had barely any extracurriculars (dance, NAHS, Global Awareness Club, French Club). I think you’ll get in, but at the worst you’ll have to start in the summer.

^That relieves me a little bit more. How did you think your essay was? Is the 3.45 GT-weighted (eg: Were all of them AP classes and what you really had was a 4.0?)

PS: Nice post count for me now.

3.45 GT weighted. I think my essay was fair, there was probably better, and definitely worse.

Ok, thanks for your input.
