Are you from New York? You have a decent chance, but the test scores could use some improvement. You might want to look at some safeties, though.

Test scores are low. Do you still have time to re-take, or is too late? Don’t let this discourage you, just write killer essays and you will have a shot.

I recommend this website: Mychances (.net)
It’s basically a chancing website, and it’s very helpful
All the best :)

Thanks for the replies. I’m not from NY, I’m actually from Montana. I will be applying to safeties for sure, I was just curious if it would be worth the trouble applying to NYU.

And yes, my scores are relatively low for NYU. Thankfully for the fall 2010 I wouldn’t have to submit sat ii scores (never have taken them); instead I can submit two of my ap 5s.

I don’t think I have time to improve my score on the sat unfortunately :(

Thanks again for the responses, I’ll take a look at your thread as well

I got into NYU with an 1830 SAT composite and about a 3.7. It might’ve been because of my hispanic background that they decided to give me a chance, but honestly it isn’t worth it. The deposits are $800 and then the housing fee is another $1,000 on top of that. I paid all of those fees just to find out that it couldn’t get the loans for just one semester. Their financial aid office did not help AT ALL. Seriously, this years tuition is $54,441. You can get an equivalent education at another school for more than half the price. If you do get in, I would seriously consider the pros and cons before making a final decision.

Financial issues will definitely be an issue. I’ve heard that NYU is pretty bad with financial aid, so I’ll be seeing what they offer and what kind of grants I can get.

In terms of chance of you going in to NYU,
I think you won’t have much problem.
As long as you can raise SAT a little and do well on your SAT II
I would recommend to take 2 subjects and try to get over 650 for both,
if you can both over 700.
Then, work on your essays.

I’ll get around to chancing the rest of you guys.

And I think I’ll apply, its just right now I’m in kind of an odd financial situation. The last 3-4 years we made less than $45,000 but now we’re making over $100,000. The last couple years however wiped out our savings and I fear our new, larger income will disqualify us from generous financial aid packages.
