Hello All,
I currently attend Burlington County College in Mount Laurel, New Jersey and am a Computer Science major.
College GPA: 4.0
HS GPA: ??? (not good though)
I am 25 years old now and have had some time to mature and realize my passions. I am hoping that my HS grades and lack of ECs do not affect me too much given that I graduated HS over 7 years ago.
I plan on attempting to transfer to Cornell’s CoE CS program for the Fall of 2017. Do you think that I have a shot? If not, is there anything else I should be doing to improve my chances?
The college courses I have taken (or plan on taking) are as follows:
English I - A
English II - A
US History I - A
Intro to Philosophy - A
Eastern Philosophy - A
Prin. of MicroEconomics - A
Precalculus - A
Calculus I - A
Calculus II - A
Calculus III - A
Intro to CS I - A
Intro to CS II - A
~~~ Not Started ~~~
Prin. of Sociology
Discrete Math
Physics I
Physics II
Chem I
Machine and Assembler
Computer Organization
~~~ Extras ~~~
I work full-time at Comcast Cable, where I provide technical product support at a Tier 3 level.
I have my A+, Network+, Linux+, and CCNA certifications, all of which are more based in the realm of IT rather than CS but they most certainly do complement my formal education. I should note that my Linux+ certification is the only one of the four that I have actually aquired while in college. All the others were obtained before.
I have learned the Python programming language on my own and have become quite proficient with it. I have already written a few small scale applications and plan on finishing up a larger scale tkinter Budget app sometime over the summer.
I plan to showcase all of these accomplishments on my personal webpage which I will create using HTML, CSS, Javascript and Python's Flask web framework. I'm already fluent with HTML and CSS but this website is admittedly still in the early concept stage, as I have not actually started on it yet. I have 9 months to finish it before I apply though.
