Chance for OOS

I'm hoping to apply to UF EA this fall, but I heard it's hard for OOS applicants to get in. I have ALOT of legacy though. My grandpa went there, my cousin just graduated from there, my uncles, aunts, etc (My dad and his family grew up in Florida, but I've never lived there).

It is in a nutshell very difficult. UF has capped out of state admissions at 3%. For the 2011
admissions cycle it was about 1.50%. When you calculate that against a freshman class size of 6,400 that is about 96 OOS students. It comes down to a number of factors including top GPA with honors and AP classes, an SAT score of 2200 or above, excellent EC’s and very good essay. In addition the designated area of study or choice of major is a factor especially for women going into engineering or computer science. Last years total applications were 29,289 and it is projected that 2012 will be between 32,000-33,000. Almost all of the OOS students admitted were competitive for Ivy’s and top 20 schools

Make sure you make it seem like UF is your #1 and that you have no intentions of going anywhere else if you get accepted… even if it’s not true.

I think being a legacy will help you, and you’ll get accepted.
