Ok thanks puzzled. I will look into both colleges some more before I make my decision. Is my chance virtually the same for both? Or do I have a better shot for one over the other?
Also does anyone know if Duke or Penn reconsiders you for regular decision if you are denied when you apply Early? I know Georgetown does if you apply Early Action and get denied so I wasn’t sure.
@puzzled123 I disagree. You have a SHOT at getting into Penn, but after all it’s a very competitive school. I wouldn’t call it a good shot. I’d still choose Penn ED over Duke ED, for the record. But your SAT score isn’t stellar, you don’t have any SAT IIs to look at yet, and you’re not a URM or Legacy.
It also depends what school you’re applying to. CAS, you might have a chance, but Wharton is incredibly competitive (you said Business Mgmt). If you’re applying to a dual degree program, that’ll make it even harder than getting into Wharton.
Don’t let this discourage you, but understand that Penn is pretty much a reach for most applicants unless you’re a URM, Legacy, or Athletic/other recruit. Definitely apply ED if you love the school, and best of luck.
Yeah I understand ComputerAge. If I can get my SAT to around 2200, preferably a little higher, then I feel good about my ED chances. And yeah I will probably apply to CAS as a biology major. I’m more passionate about science and medicine than business at this point.
Also something I didn’t consider until now…what if I do bad on the subject tests? I pushed it off too long and now I have to take it November and I might retest depending on score. But if I apply ED to Duke/Penn, and I score bad on my subject tests I would be screwed right? Is it worth the risk because of the big percentage increase? Or should I just hold off and not apply ED to either one? Let me know what you think.
Going along with that, how have you guys found to be the best studying strategy? What is the best prep book you have found? Specifically probably for Math 2, Biology (not sure which one but probably M), and either Literature or a history. I am still debating between a history and literature.
I think you have a great shot at Duke. Just make sure to get the writing score > 700. Good luck
Thanks sgopal2. I definitely think I can, but I need to work on the essay.
186 will be below the cutoff for national merit.
For Pennsylvania it usually is around 216.
Yeah thats what I thought clarinetdad.
UNC OOS is just about as hard as Duke so only apply if you really want it… I know people that got into Duke and rejected from UNC but never accepted at UNC and rejected at Duke even though Duke is generally ranked higher.
