Chance for RD? Haven't applied..

Hey guys, what are my chances for Tech and should I even apply since it's December already?

Major: CompE
OOS
Low-income
Hispanic

SAT I: 2000. I could've done better but eh, too late now.
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.95
Weighted GPA: 4.97 (for my HS)
Rank: 7 of 763 UW, 30 of 763 W (Top 99% and 95%)
Classes: 8 APs, rest honors. 5 dual enrollment classes.
ECs: Not so strong. I'm in like 5 clubs. I'm publicist of French Club. President of Math club. Cofounder of Physics Club. I have over 100 volunteer hours. I won a few awards here and there.

Anything missing? Let me know.

What’s the breakdown on the SAT?

A 3.95 UW GPA with 13 AP/Dual Enrollment courses is very strong. EC’s obviously hurt you a little, but as long as the Math SAT is reasonable, your curricular record should be strong enough that you’re almost certainly in.

660 math :/. It makes me mad cause math is my strongest subject but I always make stupid mistakes on the SAT. 700 W and 640 CR. Alright thanks dude :). And how do OOS people pay for Tech?

^ I understand the careless errors on math. I think you should be good for admission. Don’t worry, no one cares what you made on your math SAT when you get to Tech,

Hmm… that lowers your chances a good bit. I still think you’ll get in (especially as a minority) but it’s not as certain as before. Unfortunately for you, Math is the most important score, then CR, then writing.

Just checking - but you have Calculus and at least a science in the 13 dual-enrollment/AP classes, right?

Scholarships, grants, and loans. You should be eligible for a good number of scholarships as a Hispanic pursuing engineering. Since your family is low-income, you will probably also qualify for some grants. The rest will be made up with loans.

Thanks ilyssa 1257.

@BanjoHitter. Thanks. I guess I’ll find out sooner or later. And yes, I took AP Calc AB Junior year and this year I’m taking AP Physics C (Calculus-based).

As for the scholarships, grants, and loans, I have to do those seperately from the GTech app right? Or do they automatically review me for some of their own aid?

You’ll fill out a FAFSA application ([FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid](http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/)) regardless of what school you attend (you’ll do that every year). Your answers in that form will qualify you for federal grants and your college will determine how much you need in loans based on the EFC (estimated family contribution) that the government calculates from your FAFSA application.

For scholarships, GT might automatically give you some scholarships, but for most scholarships you apply directly to the scholarship provider. Most scholarships are not school specific (some are), so you can start searching and applying for scholarships now. I just googled “hispanic engineer scholarship” and found a nice list here: http://www.hsf.net/uploadedfiles/scholarships/scholarships-national.pdf</a> This looks like a good resource: [Hispanic Scholarship Fund](http://www.hsf.net/)
