Give me your thoughts. I’ve tried to trim this to only what I consider pertinent info. Chance me and I’ll chance back. Thanks!

I think your ECs and stats are fine. Besides Princeton, Yale, Duke, & UChiago, I think you’ll be accepted to the rest of your schools. However, those named schools are super selective so they’re a reach for everyone.

Best of luck with your endeavors,

@HPhelpbot123 Thanks! Chancing you back now!

Stats seem good so I guess you’d be a strong candidate for most colleges listed. You have a great shot at Duke as long as you put emphasis on the leadership roles and the articles. Chance back, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1906152-what-are-my-chances-in-duke-vanderbilt-ivies-cmu-nyu-stern-northwestern-ucla-georgetown.html#latest

Curious, have you only taken two APs through JR year and plan on taking 7more in senior year?
also what is your unweighted GPA?

Rutgers, GW BC BU NE will most likely be admits, but the others hard to say w/o more info

@AnArcticMonkey Thanks! Will chance back!

@runswimyoga Taking 6 this year. Took AP Chemistry last year but could not take exam (personal situation that I will explain on app). School only shows weighted GPA but its definitely a 97+

Honestly, you seem very average for an ivy candidate. Your ECs are trite. Try to start something on ur own which speaks to your drive and talent.

@DedicatedParent4 I’ll try not to take personal offense to that. I understand I’m not mind-blowingly unique in any given facet. Quite honestly I think your suggestion to “start something on ur own” would be foolish and utterly transparent to Adcoms, especially this late in my HS career.

Treat the college game as cynically as possible. In high school (not actually someone’s “dedicated parent”), I set up clubs that practically only existed in name, started charities/benefit contests that only had 1 running, and clawed my way into the ivies. Be ruthless. It’s more like navigating ur way out of an intestine than strolling on the yellow brick road. That’s life.

@DedicatedParent4 are you a student or actually a parent?

When you say…

“Treat the college game as cynically as possible. In high school (not actually someone’s “dedicated parent”), I set up clubs that practically only existed in name, started charities/benefit contests that only had 1 running, and clawed my way into the ivies.”

… It makes me wonder if you are really a student.

I used to work at the IT help desk at Wichita State university. Check it out . I know a great professor there in the compsci dept. Great teacher. kids loved him. then get a good awesome job at silicone mountain building hardware malware.

What is going on in this thread?

Anyways, you have the numbers to get into those schools; just make sure you have personality to back those stats up! To be excruciatingly honest, your ECs are a little lacking - you have very good in-school ECs, but I don’t really see anything that you do independent from school excluding community service and work (correct me if I’m wrong). As long as you write a great, convincing, and honest story about yourself, you’ll be good.

I worked with best students in the country. They’re going places and they’re faithful. do please check out the school

I have to agree with the others, there is nothing that stands out in your posted app…
not sure that Id put “wrote two op-ed letters to our newspaper” as an EC or award… because that looks like you are reaching for credibility… i.e. if you are so passionate about something- what steps have you actually done to become involved and fix the problem you are op-eding about?.. if that makes sense. But that’s just my opinion.

I think you are going to need a knock-your-socks-off essay for the elite schools here but since you like to write… Im betting you can do it!

@runswimyoga I’ve figured that’s what it will come to. My ECs are what they are and I can do very little to improve them at this point. Currently working on my CommonApp essay, I’ll keep you posted on its ability to “knock-your-socks-off”, but from what I have so far its pretty unique IMO.
