I think that both of you will likely receive at least $10,000 each year for 4 years. They pretty much give that to everyone who has over a 2100 SAT and good grades. After that, who knows. The best way to increase your chances for merit aid is to visit campus this fall and interview. They also select about 60 or so applicants to be considered seperately for 10 full tuition scholarships. Many folks who are considered for that but aren't selected are awarded half scholarships. I don't know what the criteria is for being considered for those. (My son got invited to campus for this in the spring of senior year. We were a bit surprised that he was being considered. He was eventually awarded a half-tuition scholarship but is attending a different school.) Finally, UR also partipates in National Merit, so if you are a finalist and list them as your first choice school, you will get an additional $2000 each year.

same question.
2360 SAT. Top 1%. Other than stats, what else is considered for these merit scholarships? Will I be at a disadvantage if I do not put Rochester as No. 1 on my National Merit forms (or is it a totally separate spiel)?
