Chance for sdsu kinesiology

i’m currently a high school junior and lately i’ve been stressing because i believe my stats aren’t good enough to get into my #1 choice, sdsu kinesiology. how competitive is it to get into the program? do i have a chance? how many students are usually accepted into kinesiology out of those who apply?
my gpa: 3.6
sat:1400

SDSU admits by eligibility index and major. Priority is given to local SD students.

EI= (CSU Capped weighted GPA x 800) + (SAT Math + EBRW) so if your CSU GPA is 3.6 then your EI is (3.6 x800) + (1400)= 4280.

My niece was accepted with an EI of 4360 this year. I would say you are borderline so if you could bump up your GPA, then you would have a better chance.

Your EI will be compared to all Kinesio applicants so it will depend upon how you stack up against the competition.

For 2019, SDSU received 2797 applicants and admitted 1060 for Kinesiology which is around a 38% acceptance rate. 2020 numbers will not be out until next year.

thank you! what was your nieces emphasis on? does your emphasis also affect admission?

What is your goal with the degree? Do you have other options you are looking at?

@ricecakes101:

Emphasis is not a consideration in the admission process. She had planned on doing the Pre-PT emphasis but decided to attend CSU Long Beach instead for many reasons not related to the SDSU program.

my goal is to be a physical therapist! but i’m also considering public health

@Gumbymom
thank you! alsoo i just checked and some of my teachers changed my grades so i actually have a 3.77! however, i have 4 c’s on my transcript from sophomore and beginning of junior year. i have been improving though every quarter and ended up with straight a’s last quarters? will i even have a chance with 4 c’s? or is it just all about the overall gpa

SDSU will admit you based on your CSU capped weighted GPA which is grades from 10-11th grades for the a-g course requirements and UC approved Honors, AP, IB or DE courses taken during 10-11th which gives you extra points towards the GPA.

Target GPA for 2019 admits was 3.97 capped weighted. Target SAT was 1282 and ACT was 27.5. A lower CSU GPA could be made up by having higher test scores.

With COVID 19, I am not sure how the Cal states will be handling next year admissions since they do not consider EC’s and essays, just GPA and test scores. It should be a very interesting year 2021.

The capped weighted CSU GPA is the same as the capped weighted UC GPA so you can use this calculator to determine your CSU GPA. HS GPA is not always calculated the same as the CSU capped weighted GPA so plug in your grades and # of honors points so you have an idea. Also not all HS Honors classes are UC approved so double check your HS Honors classes here: https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist
