*My school is a private college prep school which uses a 10 point grading scale and gives a 4 for an A in a normal class, 4.5 for A in honors Class, and 5 for A in AP Class.

**Calculated to a public school in my area which weights 4 for A in normal class, 5 for A in honors class, and a 6 for A in AP class.

The mentorship and the Tutoring are only during the school year, and the Basketball Managing was only during the 13 weeks which are the winter sport season. Also the Guatemala missions trip was for 1 week and I went on the trip two years in a row.

And for some clarification, Head Prefect is a leadership position chosen after students apply for a spot on an 8 person panel of students who influence the school. Each applicant must write three essays and go through two rounds of interviews (one with faculty members and one with the current student prefect board). Each of 7 of the people on the panel controls a different aspect of school life (e.g. Student Life, Athletics, etc.) the Head Prefect works with all the other members and is the head of the panel.
(Head Prefect is basically the highest leadership position available in my school, even higher than class president)
(Sorry for the long explanation, not everyone has heard of prefect positions)

SAT Scores:
(Superscored)

Reading: 630
Math: 730
Writing: 710

Combined: 2070

ACT Scores:
(Stronger(I think) and not superscored)

English: 31
Math: 31
Reading: 26
Science: 34
English/Writing: 30

Composite: 31

My AP Exam Grade for AP Chem is a 4

SAT's II

Math 2: 690
Biology E: 690

I am waiting on results for my AP exams and the ACT which I took for the second time recently (Scores should be higher, only second time taking it, first time proctor was terrible and lost track of time, so my timing was off, this time around finished all the test sections.)

I have taken the most demanding classes that I could at my school (Minus regular english freshman year)

Recs are coming from my calc teacher who i'm really good friends with
another from my AP bio teacher who graduated from stanford and princeton and should be a very good rec as well.

So could you chance me please?

Thanks so much!

Hey your ECs are awesome! However, GPA and scores are low for top top schools.
Stanford/MIT/Princeton- Mid-high reach
UC Berkeley- Low reach
Duke- Reach
Caltech- Reach
GT- High Match
You should add some lower tier schools. I wish you best of luck!!

Thanks so much! Hypothetically if my ACT scores came back in to be a 35 or 36, how would that affect my chances at these schools?

I’ll chance back to replies ;)

I think your reaches would definitely become more reachable if you increased that ACT score. Duke would drop to low reach, GT to a match, SMP to regular reaches.

Thanks so much! Any other advice?

Your GPA and scores are too low for most, if not all, of the schools on your list.

Even Georgia tech? Also same question as before with the act. Would the 35 or 36 help my chances exponentially? Or am I simply a lost case?

GTech: Possible

Thanks for the feedback! Could anything help my chances at all at any of these schools? (Especially Stanford)

Stanford is entirely unlikely. GPA is far too low, and SAT is low as well. Additionally, your course load throughout your high school career was completely average.

My school is really small, so small that I took every ap and honors course that fit into my schedule while still being able to meet my grad reqs, will this hurt my chances, or will Stanford notice this?

Stanford/MIT/Caltech/Princeton - High Reaches
Duke - Reach
UCB - Reach/Low Reach
Georgia Tech- Match

I would try to improve your test scores (SAT, SAT II, and ACT) to increase your chances and get A’s in Senior Year. Also, showing demonstrated interest in the schools may help.

Thanks! So far i have visited Georgia Tech and for Duke I’m an instate student, so I’m planning a visit there as well. My main pulls would be Stanford and UCB as they are top 20 engineering universities, so I am planning a trip out there to visit them. Hopefully they will notice.
Also I have some good essay topics. One big one is that freshman year I got a bad concussion and was out of school and bedridden for around a month. No light, no thought. After I saw a doctor, I was told to choose between grades and athletics. Unfortunately the concussion still affects me in memorization type courses, but this incident changed my view and helped me get into the arts which I had never expected. I still help out in sports as a manager for basketball (which is the only managing position at the school)

Georgia Tech would be high match. GPA is near 25% while SAT is at 75%. The other ones are all reach.

Thanks! Bump 10char

Your UW GPA, SAT, and SAT IIs are what’s holding you back from Stanford, Duke, MIT, Princeton, and CalTech. GPA needs to come to a 3.8 and SAT at least to a 2200. I think you can make that jump. Just prep REALLY hard this summer to retake and also retake those SAT IIs. Other than that, work as hard as you can to improve your GPA for senior year. Good luck, if you do that then I believe you can be a decent competitor. Your ECs are great too!

Can you chance back? Thanks!

Your scores just aren’t on target, and the EC’s aren’t focused enough to get you in on those alone.
UCB especially looks heavily on scores and grades more than EC’s.
My recommendation is when you’re applying only apply to one or two of those reaches that you really want and just focus on schools where your scores are more on target.
