I am a girl coming from a private school around Boston, MA. I am applying Early Decision to the Steinhardt School for Studio Art which requires a portfolio and I do not require financial aid.

Outside of School
Took summer college art classes at Parsons school of design summer of 2009. This class let me have many great pieces to put into my portfolio.
Community Service about 40 hours at a soup kitchen and pre-school.

Hey, I’m on the same boat as you.
I’m applying early to Steinhardt and I also met up with Ms. Linda Vega to review my portfolio.
My GPA is a 3.3 Which is pretty low, weighted is a 3.9
And my SAT score is a 1980.
I just took the ACTs and I’m expecting to get around a 30 or 31.
I took 8 APs, Including the ART one which i got a 4.

I asked Ms. Vega who usually gets in, and she said as long as your portfolio is strong in critical thinking and creativity (meaning not alot of still lifes or classwork pieces), you break 1200 (adding math and reading), you get around a 3.4, and you write a good essay for the NYU app, you’d have a pretty good chance of getting in.

I’m worried I wont get in though, because NYU only takes 50 out of 450 applicants for the steinhardt school of art.

Good luck to you.

-Grace

Ms. Linda Vega is the undergraduate administrator for NYU’s Steinhardt school, and she presents your portfolio to the admissions officers.
