Chance for Stern & College of Arts and Sciences?

I'm thinking of applying for finance in stern or economics and minor in american studies in CAS. I'm a chinese american female/rising senior and part of a low-income divorced family & a first generation college student.

SAT: 2140 (CR: 700 Math: 690 Writing: 750)
PSAT: 211 (CR: 620 Math: 800 Writing: 690)
SAT II: Math II 800 US History 800 Chinese 800 Biology-M 720
AP: Chinese, Statistics, US History, Psychology, Biology all 5
GPA: 3.789 unweighted, school doesn't do weighted.
Rank: 165/509

ECS(not very impressive):
clarinet playing for 11 years. In school band until 9th grade, part of nonprofit band in city.
~170 hrs total. volunteer @ library, hospital, sunday school & elementary school
cofounder & vp of school's cooking club.
make designs for nonprofits over the internet & 1st place design for tshirt at school
member of robotics club, 2nd place in VEX competition in 9th grade.
has small online business that's sort of on and off b/c of school.
attended COSMOS summer camp 2009 for linear algebra and astronomy.

I don't know if the teachers recs will be that great.

You’re retaking the SAT in Oct right? I’m pretty sure your 690 in math was a fluke. I’m pretty confident that you’ll get at least a 750 in math next time, because of your Math II and PSAT scores. Then you’ll be competitive enough (stat-wise) for Stern.

Good luck :)

Yeah, I’m retaking sat I in october but I don’t know…I’m scared that my CR score will drop drastically since I’ve never hit above 620 except for that one SAT I took. But thank you for the reply!

I would say you already have a really good chance. If you do retake the SAT you can send in your highest scores for each section so it won’t matter if your CR goes down the 2nd time.

thanks! Oh I didn’t know that you could submit the highest scores for each section, I always thought that they looked at all your sections together. How do you submit your scores for each section individually?

I guess I’m wrong and misunderstood something. I tried doing it on collegeboard but you can’t send the highest score for each section, sorry about misleading you. Although I found this thread and I guess a lot of colleges will just consider the highest score from each section even if you send both SATS.

if you get a 620 on your cr the second time you take it, the colleges will see both the 700 and the 620. however, most college admins will take into consideration that you are capable of scoring a 700 and use that score to judge you rather than the lower 620

I think Stern would be a high match for you. Are you applying ED or RD?

They superscore you SAT so don’t worry about dropping your CR score. Your math is kinda low for Stern.

Other than that, Stern seems like a good match.

I’m applying for RD and thanks for all the replies!

also just wondering is there a difference in your chances of getting accepted for Stern or CAS if you apply for RD or ED?

i think you will be a high match if you get your mat to at least a 700. With a MAth 2 of 800, should not be a problem. I am in a similar boat though, chance me?
