Note: GPA is low due to Bs in French in Middle School. Because French is a HS level course, they are counted in my GPA. Will colleges account for this and view my middle school French grade with less emphasis?

Thank you!

AP scores so far:

USH (5)
Physics Mech (5)
Stat (5)
BC Calc (5)
Gov (4)

I’d say they are realistic choices considering how good your your grades and test scores. But if your serious about schools like penn and Uchicago then make sure that those essays are extraordinary because that could make a huge difference given the competitive nature of these schools.

Thanks Shrivats88,
I was wondering if my application is seriously lacking in any way in terms of GPA, Test Scores, ECs, etc.?

Your test scores, GPA, and ECs are very good, what do you plan on majoring in? Look at your scores as a “ticket” to being considered, your essays are what can make or break you.

Dude, I think Wharotn would be your best bet. With your stats, you well within the req’s. What sets you apart is that you started, not one, but TWO OFFICIAL Non-profits recognized by the Federal Gov’t. Now THAT’S badass. You should also look at Stanford, b/c you seem to have the entrepenual character (although you may not be making money from this, you have experience starting a non-profit. Good Luck!
Chance me?

I’d say they are all distinct possibilities

Do I need to
Choose a major? Can i go in undecided?

You have solid shots at most of the schools (of like 85/15). Columbia’s a wildcard as always. Duke and Penn would be around 75/25. So your choices are quite realistic as everything (GPA, ECs, volunteering) seems to be solid.

Chance me? (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1367213-chance-vassar-columbia-tufts-etc.html</a>)

hey thanks kaytay I chanced you back. What makes you so sure as to give me solid numbers like that?

bumppppppppppppppppp

Hey!! You sound like one of those scarily perfect applicants that make people like me wonder what I’m doing even applying to college man >< Scores are great, definitely!! It’s great that you don’t have some laundry list of ECs and I assume you’ve put lots of time into them, especially your non-profits, particularly impressive if you’re looking at a business major! Consider that, especially since linking ec’s to your intended major can give you a bit of a boost, and you seem to have extraordinary ability to manage organisations! Good chance for all of them, in fact I’d say more than good, especially if you play up your nonprofits! Chicago emphasises essays lots, so make sure they’re good and I think you’re golden :)

Chance me back please ? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1367587-chance-homeschooler-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

@xoxoviviannnn thanks for the chance. I was wondering how one would shed light as to their commitment to their nonprofits. Would it be like stating how much money we raised or who we have contacted? Or is it not as important actual results as opposed to time and effort and passion put in?

Your stats and ECs are amazing! These schools are super hard to get into so obviously nothing is certain, but I think you definitely have a good shot! :)

My two cents. With regards to your non-profits, I’d say the most important thing would be their impacts, both on you and your community. Passion and commitment to a cause are far more important than a dollar amount or a phone call.

With regard to your chances: good

With regard to your statement about your ethnicity and gender, this is a pet peeve of mine, so bear with me. Gender does not mean sex; these words are not interchangeable. The words ‘man’ and ‘woman’ refer to gender; the words ‘male’ and ‘female’ refer to one’s sex and which parts one has.

I don’t know a lot about college application myself, but I can tell that that’s really impressive!
If I don’t make it to those top ranked colleges, I hope you do!
Good luck!

@nyu2013 thanks for the clear up. Any idea what I can improve in?

@omicron. Thank you for your advice. Would this be something best demonstrated through my essays?

I’d say so, yes. If I were you I’d write my main Common App essay on the topic. Your interviewers will probably also ask some questions that’ll allow you to talk about the groups too (“Tell me about what you’ve done”, “How would you say you’ve impacted your community?”, “What are some of your proudest accomplishments?”).
