Will chance back!!

Your activities are good. The SAT score could be a little low for the very top schools. With good essays and recommendations, you have a pretty good chance at a top rate school.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1169076-please-chance-me-ivy-league-stanford-duke.html</a></p>

NYU: match/in 70+%
Columbia: mid reach 40% (improving your SAT would help a lot)
Princeton: high reach 20%
Cornell: high match/low reach 50+%
Northwestern: low match 60+%
Carnegie Mellon: match/in 50+%
UChicago: match 60-70%
MIT: mid-high reach 30%

Chance me?

I would look into Georgia Tech and UIUC; they both have pretty good engineering schools. You’ve got a good chance at all your schools. The only things I can see causing problems is that your SAT is a bit on the low side and your ECs don’t really have to do with engineering as much (unless the research is engineering based). Here’s my take:

Cornell ORIE (Operations Research): Low Reach
NYU OR: High Match
Columbia IEOR: Reach
Princeton ORFE: Reach
Uchicago Financial math: Reach
CMU: High Match
Northwestern U IEMS: Match
MIT Sloan Managment Science (OR concentration): Reach

Chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1168301-may-i-have-chance.html</a></p>

Yeah the thing is the engineering I’m looking into is not really traditional engineering, it’s operations research which is very math oriented, and I just learned about it this year, so I felt I should just continue what I’ve been doing.

Thanks a ton for the replies. I’m not quite sure how NYU is a high match though, I thought it would be more of a safety because I am well above the 75th percentile in all the scores, the GPA/rank etc.

Also applying to Cornell ED helps my chances right?

Obviously your GPA is the strobgest aspect of your app, so it automatically puts you in a good position, and your SAT isn’t bad. However, to really be a “match” for the Ivies or Chicago, I think you should try to raise that to 2250+. That would give you a good shot, though still a low to mid reach for Ivies because as someone said before, none of your ECs really stress math.

Chance back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1166769-sats-so-chance-me.html</a></p>

Well I thought the ACT and the SAT IIs could be a good substitute for my sub par SAT right?
Furthermore I thought my math scores, mathletes, chess, debate which are all “analytical” show that I am a problem solver or something like that. Also my /1600 score which every school looks at is a 1480, which isn’t bad right?
All chanced back.
And of course thanks for the input!

Cornell ORIE (Operations Research) - high match
NYU OR - high match
Columbia IEOR - low reach
Princeton ORFE - high reach
Uchicago Financial math - high reach
CMU - high match
Northwestern U IEMS - mid reach
MIT Sloan Managment Science (OR concentration)- high reach

Solid ec’s, stellar GPA, can-be-better SAT score, SAT subject tests–why not go for another science test?

Please chance me back!

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1169343-chance-me-please-macalester-oberlin-kenyon-gwu-american.html</a></p>

Well I remember taking 3 subject tests on one day was really bad for me lol so I just took 2 this year, and physics isn’t my strongest subject so I didn’t want to risk a bad score, especially because I won’t be doing much physics in college. Again I’m confused as to how NYU is a high match, but it’s ok, thanks a lot for the response!! (:
Chancing back now.

@LolCowz
From what I’ve seen & heard, NYU can be really random with the admissions…but maybe that’s just for my school and kids in this area lol.

Yeah that’s true. The randomness in this process is SO disheartening! I just hope it works out for all of us in the end :P

Chance of admissions:

Cornell (ED): 80%
NYU: 90%
Columbia: 25%
Princeton: 10%
Uchicago: 50%
CMU: 60% (REALLY, depends on the school though)
Northwestern: 60%
MIT: 5%

Don’t pay attention to the people telling you to bring up your SAT score. You don’t need to with that ACT score. If anything, I’d recommend retaking the ACT to bring your English section and try to superscore a 35, which you should be able to do since English can be prepared for by going through Silverturtle’s writing guide + practice.

I’m also not sure how people are able to tell you percentages when they’re not an adcom. I’m not sure about your chances, but I can say you’re a qualified applicant to all of those places, now it’s just a matter of your essays and how we you fit in. Good luck, hope to see you here next year!

Sent from my iPhone 4 using CC app

Thanks WongTongTong for the heartening paragraph haha. I mean If I bring the math up to a 35 like I should be able to and the English to say a 34, I could definitely superscore a 36! But I didn’t know that colleges superscored the ACT. Anyway I really didn’t want to have to put all my eggs in the essay basket because there are some adcoms that will love them and of course some that will hate them, I wanted to try to rest my app on the tangibles like ECs, GPA, and scores.

Any other opinions?

Bump.
thanks everyone, I chanced you all back.

you will get into cornell engineering ED most likely b/c of its high acceptance rate and excellent GPA. I think that is how you should apply and then you won’t have to worry about any other acceptances b/c it would be risky to try to get in somewhere other than cornell ED, and it seems that’s what you like the best. that would be my recommendation :D

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1168613-chances-congressional-page-columbia-ed-will-chance-back.html</a>
chance back please!!!

Either raise your ACT English or your SAT–whatever you think will be easier. Grades/courseload looks good, did you get 4s and 5s on your APs? Extracurriculars are a little lackluster in my opinion. Do you have any significant awards?

Cornell ORIE (Operations Research) - high match
NYU OR - match
Columbia IEOR - reach
Princeton ORFE -high reach
Uchicago Financial math - low reach
CMU - can’t chance without knowing which school
Northwestern U IEMS - high match
MIT Sloan Managment Science (OR concentration) - high reach

You have safeties, correct?

Yeah I definitely have safeties; I just took 4 APs this year so I didn’t get my scores.
Yeah I qualified to states for debate went to college invitationals etc, I have the PSAT merit thing but that’s it I guess, and the AMC.

Lawl Bump. :(
