Counselor Rec

Faults with my Resume:
- my intended major is science, but i've only got 2 internships and a school award for it. seems like my passion is music, but it's not. i dont like music that much, it likes me apparently

Colleges I'm thinking about

Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, Duke, Brown, Cornell, WashU, Rutgers, Johns Hopkins, UPenn, Dartmouth, Northwestern, UChicago, Carnegie Mellon

can you "chance" me for the schools above? (reach, match, or more specific)

thank you.

18 views, not 1 post?

please chance so i can make some smarter decisions about where to apply :)

thanks a lottt in advance

Harvard, reach
Yale, reach
Stanford, reach
Princeton,reach
Duke, high reach
Brown, match
Cornell, match
WashU, match
Rutgers, safety
Johns Hopkins,match
UPenn, low reach
Dartmouth, high match
Northwestern, match
UChicago, high match
Carnegie Mellon, match

I don’t think your ECs correlate too well with what you are going to do, but excellent ECs and your 2400 superscore/4.0 UW are outstanding.

Chance me back btw :D

You will probably get into at least half of the schools mentioned. Good luck!

Honestly, for the purposes of college admissions, you should probably just pretend to be most interested in music. You have demonstrated ability and passion there, so stick with it for now.

These are all pretty random, but:

Harvard, reach
Yale, reach
Stanford, reach
Princeton,reach
Duke, low reach
Brown, reach
Cornell, match
WashU, match
Rutgers, safety
Johns Hopkins, match
UPenn, low reach
Dartmouth, low reach
Northwestern, match
UChicago, match
Carnegie Mellon, match

Your information looks really good. Admission in to the ivy league is a crapshoot for almost everyone. At this point, it will be up to your essays and evaluations

Good luck :)

Harvard: Low Reach
Yale: Low Reach
Stanford: Reach
Princeton: Low Reach
Duke: High Match
Brown: Low Reach
Cornell: Low Match
WashU: Low Match
Rutgers: Safety
Johns Hopkins: Low Match
UPenn: High Match (Unless Wharton)
Dartmouth: High Match
Northwestern: Match
UChicago: Match
Carnegie Mellon: Low Match

Ivies + Stanford + duke are reaches/high reaches
WashU/northwestern/johns hopkins - low reaches
Rutgers is a safety

Harvard: high reach. 15% avg.
Yale: high reach, same percent
Stanford: high reach, “”%
Princeton: same “”%
Duke: mid reach if applying RD, low reach/high match if ED 35% RD, 50% ED
Brown: mid to high reach 20%
Cornell: ED high match or low reach, RD mid reach (55% ED, 30% RD)
WashU: match to high match; 60+%
Rutgers: in with merit money; 100%
JHU: low reach high match, 50%
UPenn: mid reach 35%, ED high match 55%
Dartmouth: mid to high reach, 25%
northwestern: match, 65+%
Uchicago: high match, possibly merit aid
Carnegie Mellon: match, 70+%

ECs ok but not great. That along with academics makes for a “cliched Asian applicant.” I know that sounds wrong, but it’s true. With a 2400 and good grades, along with the great majority of your ECs having to do with music, you’ll look like many other applicants they are going to see, especially Asian and Indian, as they are prone to very high grades coupled with musically-inclined ECs.

Not many ECs or other activities really match up with the intended science major.

Also, the lack of summer activity could hurt. Maybe just stress this summer’s activity so that they don’t just see “sleep” for 2 summers in a row.

Maybe try to capitalize on the music stuff as a central theme for your app? Many adcoms say having a “theme” has become the new way to go. That could help.

Good luck! I’ll give you my opinion:
Harvard- high reach
Yale- high reach
Stanford- high reach
Princeton- high reach
Duke- reach
Brown- reach
Cornell- low reach
WashU- reach (“Tufts Syndrome” aka they reject “too-good” applicants a lot)
Rutgers- safety
Johns Hopkins- match
UPenn- reach
Dartmouth- mid to lowerish reach
Northwestern- low reach/ pretty high match
UChicago- high match/ low reach (they are all about “fit”)
Carnegie Mellon- match (a bit highish maybe for science)

I think your music awards and music related ECs help your chances.

Jesus u are such a stereotypical asian

You have as good of a chance as anyone

Looks good, but there’s nothing “beyond the ordinary” to set you out from the crowds of asians that apply

I don’t think “crowds of asians” get 1st in two international music competitions. Anyways, I think you have a swell chance at all the schools except for HYPS which are crapshoots.

the fact that i go to a SUPER competitive school might not help much :(

my school doesnt rank,
but if i did, i feel like i’d be #10 -_-"
definitely not in top 4

very good chances!!! best of luck out there.

If the school needs a viola you are a sure admit.

“the fact that i go to a SUPER competitive school might not help much”

I attended a SUPER competitive HS and I think I know what you mean. It is rather difficult to stand out since there are so many high performing students.

There is nothing much you can do about it. If I were you, I will apply to many colleges and apply EA to the colleges that like your HS.

thank you guys! your predictions were a big help, esp when i compared them with my own

more replies are welcome from anyone who sees this thread :)
