Yeah I’ve been teaching a little boy once a week for a few months Doesn’t really give you much money but it’s cool to be able to teach someone an instrument. I am in Grade 10 RCM so I play all the classical stuff but also listen to music and pick it up that way/make covers/occasionally write my own stuff. Love playing Coldplay, Andrea Boccelli… Whatever I like the sound of really hahah :)

Ohh niceee my state has a similar piano system I just passed level 10 last year. I’m starting to learn Liszt’s paganini etude number 6. It seems pretty crazy. But thats awesome! the only nonclassical music I play is no hands by waka flocka

Btw let me know if there are any good undergrad financial/business schools I haven’t listed.

Thanks for all the replies so far!

regarding applying to Booth for U chicago as undergrad

you might want to read into it a little more. the undergrad for the Booth school JUST started, and has not really been established for applying freshman. It will likely be high quality, but Booth is far more known for its grad study (which is excellent). It may or may not be a risk. Food for thought.

Thanks wrung what do you think about cornell and all?

working on it just a sec. I’m going a little in depth

can I get more info on your SAT IIs and updated SAT ?

I haven’t taken any SAT II’s but I assume I should get anywhere from 700-800 (I’m taking Math 2 and probably either bio or chem, do I need to take another one?) I haven’t taken another SAT yet but when I do I think my score should be anywhere from 2100-2300 (unless I stay the same or do worse which is excellent jk haha).

okay. I’ll start with some info that you may or may not have. This is the info on the latest dyson accepted class. You can compare yourself with it if you want (and read the propaganda attached if you want to drink the cornell koolaid)
http://dyson.cornell.edu/docs/aem_info_sheet.pdf

For me, it was a toss up between ED for Penn and Cornell (so i know something about both). Penn is definitely stronger in finance, but Cornell’s program is on the rise in the rankings and is expanding in general.

to begin:
For your SAT score, it could definitely be stronger. Both schools have similar ranges of SAT scores and ACT so that is a constant. Also, your ECs suggest strong interest in B-school which is to your benefit.

Regarding Cornell:
Dyson is small. Cornell is also a bit off the wall with its admissions (they don’t follow as many patterns as other schools) that results in their ability to choose basically whatever they want. They look for those high SAT scores, but what i hear over and over is how AEM admissions is looking for FIT. If you fit in with AEM and are likely to enroll, that’s what Cornell is looking for. Your ECs are a huge advantage in this case. I’m guessing that you have high math scores, which is also important.
Regarding the feel of the school, Cornell is without question a more laid-back place. Wharton is the top B-school in the nation, and the admitted kids will reflect that.

The huge tipping point:
Your SAT IIs. Cornell and CALS does not require them (which means they will likely only glance at them if they look at all). If they are not to your liking, then Cornell looks very rosy all of a sudden because that’s a huge weight off your back.
For me personally, I had a Math II of 800, a Bio of 780, and a world history of 730 (2200 SAT I and 34 ACT). With all of those, I still wasn’t confident about Wharton. (and you don’t need more than 2 SAT IIs)
So believe me when i say Good Luck on those scores. They may matter more than you think.

Regarding Penn:
I would say that your chances for Penn are overall slightly worse than Cornell. You really have to consider how many applicants Penn has to choose from (and wanting to go into finance isn’t unique, the majority of Wharton applicants want to). The key will be being able to set yourself apart even further than your ECs have done. Being asian with your scores and wanting finance at Wharton, you are similar to so many other people. Be unique! That’s what will get you in, filling that niche that they are looking for.

End result:
Cornell: reach (low to mid)
Penn: reach (mid to high)

more questions? cornell is my specialty. I’ve given pretty much all I got on penn

WHOAAAA that was an awesomeeeeeeeee response. May I ask where did you go to college (btw you should be an admissions officer unless you already are one haha). So by setting myself apart would that just be my essays and describing my passions or what? Also, do you think if I brought my scores up to 2250 would Cornell be a match or no? Thanks!

I actually haven’t graduated yet (so take my responses with a grain of salt!) but thank you. It was a toss up for ED between Wharton and Dyson for me. I ended up going Dyson because Cornell offered me an excellent deal with tuition. The SAT score depends. Ideally you would be on average above or around 700 or 720, but I think (in my opinion, no evidence to support) math is the most important.

I got accepted to Dyson ED recently, and decided I could help a few people out with my now useless, staggering amount of Dyson admission knowledge.

One more thing i forgot to mention: You have a lot of APs. I know for a fact that Cornell in AEM accepts most of them and they will place you out of beginner classes. I’m fairly certain that Penn and Wharton are not the same way (but definitely check that one, if it’s a hinge point)

Also, Cornell is a fairly good match as it is. ECs and interest are some of AEM’s most important qualities they look for (which results in the huge range of accepted scores i sent you on their fact sheet) so don’t count yourself out! If you think that you may want to go to Cornell, then apply! The atmosphere is pretty nice for a B-school, and people are very helpful! (I was helped out with admissions decisions by a AEM grad that my sibling knew, and he helped walk me through AEM application)

Thanks man and congratulations! Perhaps next year I could ask you questions regarding the admissions process haha. I’m definitely very interested in Dyson! Anything to improve my EC’s?

Wow the guy above pretty much said everything there is to say about Cornell for you. For EC’s I’d say more leadership positions or start up a club.

Chance me back bud!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1431836-chance-me-umich-rd-ill-chance-back-right-away.html

diversify! Piano and finance are nice, useful, and intelligent but everybody does them. Your leadership roles are great, so keep at that. Perhaps some community service wouldn’t go amiss. Do you have any sports or physical activities to speak of? You might want to throw that in there. Then you’ll have the triple threat of ECs; academics, arts, and sports. But if no, then no worries. Not a dealbreaker.
But definitely diversify. If you have a unique quality/skill (or several) that makes you look good to colleges looking for a niche. But don’t go overboard and kill yourself with coursework. Bad idea.

Yeah so far my dad doesn’t want me to do any sports but I’m also helping manage reselling library discards as a volunteer service for the state. I also do science olympiad and science bowl (possible nationals for scioly). Thanks for the feedback but I think my niche will be piano (I guess its decent because a couple students from my teacher got into Standford just because of it but I’m a half step below them hahaha). Thanks though. And for chris I’ll chance you back but I actually started 2 clubs. Thanks for the feedback!

Also Wrung when you can pm or if you don’t mind posting what were you’re stats and ec’s? Thanks haha

Get yourself a safety!

Oh wait I thought BU would be my safety? (I’m not going for Boston college). Thanks though

I think catria is correct, until you get theater score up. 2200+ is ideal, but even that’s not a sure ticket into these schools. LoR, Essayss, etc will play a role too!

(I am only a Junior myself, so take this with a grain of salt…actually a couple grains)

Best of luck!
