Our guidance counselors aren't historically the most honest so I want to hear if I really have any chance at getting into top schools. I'm looking at like Bowdoin, Dartmouth, Pomona, Princeton, Tufts, and Yale. Thank you all so much!! If you need, I'm happy to chance back :)

What are you thinking of majoring in?
Sorry these are probably really inaccurate. This is the first one I have actually chanced someone. I wish you the best! Chance me back?

Thank you so much! Yeah, one of my biggest problems is that I’m torn between some very diverse majors. I’ve narrowed it down to either neuroscience, politics, business, or philosophy. Most of the schools I’m looking at are very liberal arts simply because I know I’ll be changing around a lot.

P.S: I chanced you back!

First, thanks for chancing me! You probably had to scroll through pages of threads to find mine, so the effort is appreciated. I’m happy to return the favor.

Before I do, I’d like to note that on your list, only Tufts super-scores the ACT. Therefore, I’ll go with the 34 for Tufts, but figure the other with a 33, which is what I imagine your non super-score is.

Bowdoin: High Match/ Low Reach
Dartmouth: Reach
Pomona: Low Reach
Princeton: Reach
Tufts: High Match
Yale: Reach

You certainly are going for some excellent schools. And all of them have low admission rates, with all being below 25%. I am confident you will get into at least one, with multiple being very possible. A quick google search of what venturing is confirms your dedication for both of the two Scouting organizatons. And it is great to meet another debater! Because you are so undecided for your major, your extracurriculars appear a bit scattered. Don’t fear, though, as I am sure that you must love, and will write good essays about something you have been doing for 12 years. Your GPA is literally perfect, with your ACT being a superscored 34, or what I imagine to be a 33. With all of that being said, the Ivy’s (and all of your schools, really) are very competitive, so if there is one you want to go to above all others, Early Decision or Early Action should be considered.

With GPA 4.0 and ACT 34, you can definitely try these schools. However, your Math score is a bit low. Also most schools do not superscore ACT. So what is you best single sitting score? It would better if you list out all the section scores from all attempts.

My ACTs are very similar. Debater1996 was right, my best is a 33:

Dec ACT: 35E, 28M, 35R, 28S, 10 essay = 32C
Apr ACT: 36E, 28M, 32R, 36S, 8 essay = 33C

I just look up the list for ACT superscoring. Among your school list, it seems only Tufts will superscore ACT. Most of the other ones require all scores. Ponoma would use best single sitting, but then they may look up best single section scores from all tests for further evaluation. Your weakness is in Math. You will have a higher chance for these schools if all your section scores are above 30 (the low end of mid 50). Considering composite score of 33 and Math at 28, you may want to boost your scores a little bit if you really want a better chance for these schools (except Tufts).

FYI. The following site has a list of schools that do some sort of ACT superscoring.
http://www.freetestprep.com/blog/resources/list-of-colleges-and-universities-that-superscore-the-act-test/

@billcsho that list is interesting. I was surprised so many super-scored the ACT and some big name schools like Boston College, Caltech, Cornell, Duke and Georgia Tech.

I thought the Georgia Tech details were interesting and probably fairly accurate on converting ACT scores to SAT equivalents after I thought about it. Since the SAT does not have a science section like the ACT they just disregard it. They also disregard the ACT reading and instead use the combined English/Writing score from the ACT for the SAT writing.

GTech’s scoring for ACT/SAT equivalency:
SAT Critical Reading = ACT English
SAT Math = ACT Math
SAT Writing = ACT Combined English/Writing

@billcsho hmmm I’ve been using this chart to determine superscoring schools: http://prepmatters.com/sites/default/files/pdf/Top%20Colleges%20-%209-29-11.pdf and it has quite a few conflicting facts. ie, mine says Tufts, Bowdoin, and Dartmouth all superscore the ACT…

(Anyway though, thank you so much for the advice!)

^ That list is known to have error. They mixed up SAT and ACT together. One example is Northwestern that it said both SAT and ACT superscoring while the admission office said no ACT superscoring. This has been discussed in the Northwestern subforum here. Anyway, schools not on the freetesprep list only means there is no information on it, so you should check with the admission office directly. Nevertheless, the list is open for input and I would expect it to be updated when other people from new information.
Here is another list that neither Bowdoin or Dartmouth on it and consistent with the freetestprep list:
http://www.collegeadmissionspartners.com/college-testing/colleges-superscore-act/

I like the freetestprep list more as it lists out the details of how each school looks at the scores besides superscoring.

Oh, man, I’ve totally been using that chart for everything! Thank you SO much for letting me know. I’ll definitely start using the freetestprep list instead.

Note the prepmatters list has “SAT and ACT” and “SAT and ACT composite” under superscoring. The one with “SAT and ACT” coincide with the other lists that show ACT superscoring. It seems the “SAT and ACT composite” ones may actually mean superscoring SAT but highest ACT composite. So the error could be simply lack of explanation.
