Chance for U Chicago (Should I ED, EA, or RD?

Chicago doesn’t have ED, but it does have EA. It probably won’t significantly increase your chances, but it may help a little, and since it’s non-binding, it’s probably for the best if you want your result early.

Since you’re a first-generation student, I think that will give you a little bit of a boost. I would definitely talk about the objectivist society, as it’s interesting and reflects a passion on your end.

Your SATs are good, but I don’t know how your GPA will be taken. Your class rank will be important, and it may hurt you a bit, since 90% of incoming students graduated in the top 10% of their class. However, if your school has a reputation for rigor, it may not be terribly important.

Ultimately, your essays will probably be the decision-maker. Make sure to clearly communicate your passions and the reasons you want to go to Chicago. Chicago is probably a low/mid reach for you, but it is for nearly everyone.

Your GPA is really on the low side for UChicago, so are your scores. All below the 25th percentile of admitted students.

First gen college student helps, but you’re not really low income, you’re above average, so that doesn’t help a lot, though you will still qualify for financial aid, which is the only good thing.

With your ECs, I’m not seeing many leadership positions. Is that something that you could add this coming year? If you could, that would help. You have great history of volunteering, though about how many hours are we talking about here?

Also, what kind of thing do you want to major in?

I think that if you could bump up your SAT scores, you’d have a better shot.
