Hello all,
I’m currently attending CLU as a freshman, but I’m hoping to transfer to UCI as a Chemistry major with a concentration in Biochem or UCD as a Global Disease biology major (and hopefully redeclare for Biochem)

Thanks!
You realize that transferring as a Sophomore, that your chances are low especially since you only have 3 CCC courses under your belt. Will you have the GE requirements finished by the end of Spring 2017 plus some major prep classes? UC’s take a few Sophomore level transfers but most transfer with 60 semester/90 quarter units. Sophomore transfers will usually fulfill their GE courses with a large amount of AP credit, which looks like you have little. Not trying to discourage you, but it will be a tough admit just based on what you have posted.
- Complete the following 7-course pattern by the end of the spring term prior to fall enrollment at UC:
Two transferable courses in English composition;
One transferable course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning;
Four transferable college courses chosen from at least two of the following subject areas:
arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences
Plus you need to meet some major prep courses requirements. See link for assist.org UCD Global Disease courses:

Hi Gumbymom,
I’ve already talked to the registrar, and she said my 5 on the AP Lang exam was enough to take care of ENGL110 & ENGL111 (both standard freshman English courses). I’m going to be taking ENGL260 in the spring semester as well. On top of that, I’ll be getting Calc 1 out of the way, along with 2 more science courses (Gen Chem 2 & Bio).
Do you think that would be enough?
You will be competing against Junior level transfers with IGETC and major prep completed along with at least the minimum transfer units. CCC Junior level transfers get priority over UC to UC and CSU to UC, then finally other California schools and OOS transfers. Sophomore transfers are low man on the transfer heirachy. If you want to transfer, I would definitely consider attending the local California CCC and using TAG for either UCI and UCD instead of continuing at CLU. You can apply and if you do not get into UCD/UCI this year, then try again the following year.
I would definitely go to a Ju-Co next year and then transfer to one of the UCs, but the thing is I want to go to medical school after undergrad and they certainly don’t like an applicant “downgrading” from a 4-year university to a community college.
