You’ve got a great chance at UCI. This, of course, depends on what major you apply for, though. I would also look into some of the higher tier UCs with your stats. Start on your essays ASAP.
I am thinking of doing undeclared because computer science is such a competitive major at UCI. Of course the other UC’s are super great to aim for but right now my goal is UCI. And yes I started on my essays just last week! I’ve always thought I had average stats for UCI because of my low GPA and sat but since u said I have a good chance that’s reassuring! Thank you!
I would suggest applying directly to the Comp. Sci major. I believe they have a separate school for computer science, so it may be harder to declare such a competitive major.
You will find it is very difficult to almost impossible at many of the UC’s to switch into CS later. I agree with @uclahopeful to apply directly if CS is what you want.
Here is the information for switching into CS at UCI if you choose to go Undeclared (the requirements may change along with minimum GPA):
Requirements Description for CS
Students must meet BOTH requirements:
Minimum of 2.7 GPA overall
Minimum GPA of 2.0 in the quarter immediately preceding the change of major
Course grades
Completion of the following courses:
ICS 31
ICS 32
One or more of Math 2A, Math 2B, ICS 6B, ICS 6D,
A minimum GPA of 2.7 and no grade less than a C in ALL courses taken from those listed above.
Other
Student with more than 90 units will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and may not be admitted to the major.
Students must complete the change of major requirements with an average quarter GPA of 2.0 or higher at the time of application and be in good academic standing.
Students must complete all change of major requirements at the time of application.
